NIH Update: Limits on yearly grant submissions NIH recently announced a plan to limit PIs to submitting no more than 6 grant applications per calendar year, including new, renewal, resubmission or revision applications. What does that mean for UC ...

Notice says PI/MPI. So not co-I. even if your institution says you are PI of subaward NIH doesn’t count that. Being said- subawards have triggered well funded investigator review issues (ask me how I know). UC Davis site has good plain language explanation.

this is a fascinating article, featuring a ton of analytical chemists arguing with one another #chemchat

Anybody got an example of substrate channeling where an isotopic label in a specific product is more enriched than the tracer? I know this is theoretically possible with compartmentalized pools but I am drawing a big old blank on relevant literature?

I read that too and wondered how much was CR funding based. I’ve had budgets cut and the PO allowed reduction in scope.

I assume anybody can still argue for discussion rescues?

I have some good news for you, I got a 8/19 NoA that was unexpected.

Yeah it was a 26 impact (the Mira didn’t give percentiles but looking at distribution from prior years was prettttttttttty good) and the best summary statement I’ve ever gotten.

Found out my well scored MIRA will not be funded, as I am MPI on too many grants. Not close to the direct cost cap at all, but the optics of 5 projects look bad. I understand that and really hope the grant ends up keeping someone else’s lab open. But man it hurts.

Call your legislative reps but at this point call your Fisher Sci Reps too.

SLC7A5 is required for cancer cell growth under arginine-limited conditions Metabolic adaptations are key to cancer cell survival in nutrient-limited microenvironments, but strategies for coping with arginine scarcity are poorly understood. Dunlap etΒ al. use CRISPR screening and metabolomics to identify the plasma membrane transporter SLC7A5 as a citrulline transporter essential for cancer cell growth under arginine limitation.

Happy New Year. I’m pleased to report publication of the Ducker lab’s latest cancer metabolism paper led by graduate student Kyle Dunlap in @cp-cellreports.bsky.social

In back to back thesis committee meetings 4/8 professors had daycare age children. All of us had coughs from being sick recently. β€˜Tis the season.

At the end of the day, she said, β€œI can’t believe they pay you just to go to meetings all day.”

She thought for a minute and said, β€œI guess they would have to pay you.”

Boy, did I feel seen.

New preprint alert! First authors Drs. Naveen Tangudu and Raquel Buj used both CRISPR screens and pharmacological approaches to identify novel metabolic vulnerabilities of cancers with p16 loss. Should we re-think anti-metabolites in this context? πŸ§ͺ
