This is what progress can look like when we center people, safety, and compassion with real solutions.
This is what progress can look like when we center people, safety, and compassion with real solutions.
This initiative pairs with solutions the city is already working on, including expanding affordable housing, strengthening outreach and service coordination, supporting people through crises, and treating addiction and mental health like the public health issues they are.
Letβs be clear: people do not become unhoused because they βfailed.β They become unhoused because rents explode, wages lag, health care is unaffordable β and because systems are built to let people fall through the cracks.
A city rooted in dignity does not shuffle people from block to block. A city that leaves no one behind invests in stability, safety, and opportunity so fewer people end up outside in the first place, and more people can get back home faster.
Our city is moving forward on a daytime "Urban Oasis" for unhoused residents. It will be a safe, structured space with connections to housing, mental health care, and addiction treatment. And it will include restrooms, lockers, coffee, and dog run β open 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Itβs always roll tide, but our Birmingham Promise program has sent over 2,000 Birmingham graduates to colleges across Alabama, tuition-free. Learn more: birminghampromise.org

But, our work isnβt done.
The next chapter is about finishing what we started, and pushing further.
We kept our promises to city workers, invested in public health, expanded affordable housing, and brought life back to neighborhoods long overlooked.
We led in a pandemic. We stood up for justice. We never stopped putting people first.
Eight years ago, we said Birmingham deserved better.
Last night, we celebrated what weβve built together: Homicides are down 50% this year. We launched the Birmingham Promise and sent over 2,000 young people to college, tuition-free.
Birmingham, I just want to say thank you.
Thank you to every voter, volunteer, supporter, and believer who made this moment possible. From East Birmingham to West End, from North Birmingham to Avondale, you showed up yesterday because you know Birmingham deserves leadership that puts people first.

The future of our cities is bright.
Tomorrow is our chance to keep building on the progress weβve made. Iβll see you at the polls.
Our campaign has always been about one thing: moving Birmingham forward, together.
Weβve built a coalition that reflects the heart of our city - workers, activists, neighbors, and leaders at every level, all standing shoulder to shoulder for one purpose: a stronger Birmingham.

Grateful to have Cory Bookerβs endorsement in this campaign. Senator Booker has always fought with compassion and conviction, and his belief in our campaign inspires me to keep working for equity, justice, and opportunity in all 99 neighborhoods.
His endorsement means so much - because it reminds us that the work weβre doing in Birmingham is part of a bigger fight for equity across our state.
Together, weβre building a city where every neighborhood thrives and every child has a fair shot at success. Letβs keep pushing forward
Iβm honored to have the support of my friend, former U.S. Senator Doug Jones.
Doug has spent his career fighting for justice, fairness, and opportunity for every Alabamian.
