Another lofty VR idea of mine - pre-Ian Fort Myers Beach.
Starting with Times Square, and slowly working outward from there.

One of the bigger challenges would be the open-door souvenir shops, packed with so many things that I can't get reference of because who takes pictures in a souvenir shop?

It's a tape that was made for rental stores in Sweden, in the 1980s.
Finding another isn't impossible, but it comes down to luck.
I was looking for another anyway, because this one has a lot of issues.

Good news is, I'd already captured the video RF a dozen times, so it'll look as good as it's going to.

Bad news is, I hadn't captured the audio before this happened.

It wouldn't rewind, so I had to use some more sophisticated tools to rewind it manually.
Then I found out that when a tape is stuck like that, it's best to not try to force it...

It feels like it's one more thing that's broken in the past decade or so.
Before, it seemed the secret was "post frequently, everywhere", and even then it took a fair amount of luck.

...my computer spent all of yesterday analyzing 1400 video frames. It generated just two camera views and no 3D points.

I'm tempted to give mGear a look, mainly to get a sense of what kind of rigs it puts out. I've hated nearly every rig I've ever touched, because the people who make them rarely have to USE them. They bog it down with things animators don't need, and miss things that they do.

I swear that I meant to do a Gobuary thing this month... But then LiFe, wOrK, and burnout all hit kind of hard.

The hardest part, if you go this far, might be drilling a hole in the back plate for the bnc connector. All that takes is a strong enough drill with the right sized bit. Nothing fancy, but you'll be measuring & double checking to make sure it's in the right spot and won't interfere with anything.
