Some interesting books here.

Looks like I put the wrong link in my previous post. This one should work: books.bookfunnel.com/summertimere...
This promo includes some really interesting books. (And mine are lurking among them.) Take a look - you might find something you'd love to read!
I have a new post up on Substack. I really need to remember to mention those here... tinneysueheath.substack.com/p/a-medieval...
New Substack up, part 1 of 2. This one is about Corso Donati's bombastic return from exile in 1301.

Iβm not doing much with it so far, but I do see an entertaining mix of history and politics in my feed, and unlike FB itβs not cluttered with ads.
Photograph of a building in Florence. A tall thin stone section rises up, from street level several stories. About the level of the second story, a yellow section sticks out from the outside of it, awkwardly wrapping around the outside of the stone part, supported by elegant sticky-outy triangular struts. The yellow section has several small circular windows, much too small for a human to climb through, barely large enough for a chubby cat.
Letβs talk about resistance after a conqueror takes power. Specifically letβs talk about this bendy yellow building, and what it shows us about the moment the Florentine Republic finally fell to its kleptocratic/proto-capitalist banking-fortune Medici conquerors 1/?
Ooh. No, I didn't. Now I love it even more!
I love that cover!
I have another Medieval Italian People newsletter up on Substack, this one about Ravenna Donati. No wonder the poor woman wanted to take refuge in a convent!

I have a newsletter up on Substack today, about some musical aspects of our recent trip to Bologna. Enjoy!
Yes, it is!
My newsletter, up on Substack as of today, is about our recent visit to the Palazzo Datini in Prato, Italy. I'm working on a book about the family that lived there at the turn of the 15th century, so this was an adventure for me. tinneysueheath.substack.com/p/the-house-...

Some interesting historical novels here, including mine. (Well, I think mine are interesting, anyway! They certainly kept me busy for a long time.)
I've been cooking all day. The last recipe, for pumpkin mousse, told me how long it was going to take, and then ended with "Ten minutes to chill." That sounded like a good idea, so here I am on Bluesky.
Is it sometimes best not to know? In this next visit of our archive, @guyfassler.bsky.social walks us through ignorance on the streets of medieval Bologna #MedievalHistory #Bologna #ItalianHistory #LegalHistory scilicet.org.uk/is-it-someti...
Painting showing St. Cecilia gazing toward heaven while holding her portative organ upside down.
It's the feast day of #SaintCecilia, the patron saint of music. But she's holding her organetto upside down! I play one of those, and I can tell you, if those soft lead pipes splat on the ground, the instrument is never going to sound the same. Look, they're already slipping out...
Me too, and especially the way they shift subtly as the day advances, or the sky clouds over or brightens.

Three pictures from Gubbio, my favorite town in Italy. We were there in October, returning to a place we loved the first time around. It's just as beautiful now.

Hi - I'm new to Bluesky (as are so many!). I'm the author of two historical novels set in medieval Italy, with more to come, and I play various medieval and Renaissance musical instruments. Just back from a month in Italy, including this beautiful city:
Thank you!
I'm a historical novelist with two books set in medieval Italy, and I have a Substack called Medieval Italian People and the World They Lived In. No academic creds, just many years of reading, traveling, and studying. Would love to be added if that's appropriate.
