AEW never got appropriate props for effectively only existing for like SIX MONTHS before a global pandemic made it impossible to tour and get word out. And they made it. Thrived, even.

WCW had billionaire backing and nothing in their way and they blew up in like four years.

it's so wild to me that people will punch-out (or threaten to) when the store doesn't go the direction they want it to.

absolutely. i love coming up with the direction that stories go. that's part of the fun (for me). but when they don't go the way i would personally write it? i'm somewhat MORE intrigued because i want to see where they're going with it. AEW has earned my trust to give them time.

my understanding is that they have to decide on a stip and Hanger basically said he'll never challenge for the Men's World Title again if he loses but that it has to be in Texas Death? but i haven't gone back and watched again. so i could be wrong.
