A team of scientists from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School, GATS, Inc. Embry-Riddle University and UCAR-NCAR- NSF kick off CGWaveS (Convective Gravity Waves in the Stratosphere) to understand how they form and influence weather. This research aims to improve weather and climate forecast models.
Scientists @davenolan305.bsky.social, GATS, Inc., Embry-Riddle University & @ncar-ucar.bsky.social kicked off CGWaveS campaign (Convective Gravity Waves in the Stratosphere) to study how gravity waves influence the atmosphere. The aim is to improve weather and climate forecasts. Supported by NSF.
We'll be flying the NSF/NCAR Gulfstream V around thunderstorms at night. 9 flights in 28 days. A lidar pointing out the top of the plane will measure gravity waves in the stratosphere. @miamirosenstiel.bsky.social
