I think it’s just a convention, the maths works either way round. Interested in what others think. BTW the thing the students always struggle with is endo or exo Enthalpy of solution

Uni of York MOOC Exploring everyday chemistry is good. RSC screen expts. Cambridge Chem challenge. Maybe join with another school to do the schools analyst competition.

I agree with Helen’s advice. You’re not expected to know the answer or even get the question right but you need to be able to describe your thought process. We practice by describing an unfamiliar mechanism out loud.

The oxalic acid is oxidised to carbon dioxide and water. It’s autocalytic though so after a while you get interesting data! #chatchemistry

Scisheets and a good quality textbook. Good YouTube channels for A level: MAChemGuy, Brady Explains.
I like the focus on what the bond is. Students arriving with us from GCSE are sometimes obsessed with how it’s formed. #chatchemistry
And for A level. Loads of dot and cross diagrams and for shapes make models. There are great shapes Molymods kits which have lone pairs in… #chatchemistry
Go back to the periodic table for every example. Where is it on the table so what does that tell us. Then go from there #chatchemistry
