An ICE agent shot and killed Ruben Ray Martinez, a US citizen and San Antonio resident, in March 2025. Then ICE and the Texas Department of Public Safety covered it up. He was 23 years old. I am calling for a full investigation into this shooting, including why there was an 8-month cover up.

I never thought I'd be a single issue voter but I am now.
If I ran MI6 or the BND, I think I would be concentrating a lot of my effort to influencing the US midterm elections.
This is who voted against establishing DHS

Bari Weiss doesn't want you to see this unless it includes "the other side" from an administration official
This. Exactly this.
If such a mapping exists, sure. In practice, (probably) youβll find that the assumptions required ex post are much stronger than if you had explicitly designed a survey or experiment to generate the identifying variation for the theoretical object you care about.
Weβre supposed to be in the business of confronting and falsifying theory yet we often lack the tools because we never defined the theoretical objects in the first place. Anyway, Dan McFadden also won a Nobel prize but (basically) no discrete choice is taught in mainstream poli-sci anymore.
Start by writing down a mode and then specify the identifying variation needed to recover its parameters. Design your survey, experiment, or empirical strategy to target the substantively meaningful theoretical object. The world is not filled with ATE PokΓ©mon to collect.
That is, too many people cannot grasp that the mapping from E[Y(1)βY(0)] to their theoretical quantity requires real assumptions. These assumptions should be made up front, not retrofitted post-hoc.
Hereβs my moderately hot take: the NeymanβRubin framework has sent a generation of political behavior scholars down the wrong path. The LATE they recover is rarely the structural parameter they "theorize" about.

I saw a comedian say: after 10 months, he hasn't figured out what "tariffs" are.
Bottom line: US tariffs are essentially sales taxes on lower-income and retired Americans.
The explicit goal+mechanism of tariffs is to force those people to pay more for the same products.

I bet the ADL will find some new way to defend these literal Nazis.
Unfortunately, reality is only apparent *after* elections.
It's almost like I've been saying this for years...
This is the purposeful destruction of the American academy.
thereβs a lot of talk about big tech and corporations but so many international academic colleagues are also on H1Bs.
no university is going to pay 100k extra a year to keep them. if this holds, it would essentially mean the end of foreigners on tenure track jobs at US universities.
