Did you learn about these things from Hillary and Kamala or did you already know
Vertigo (Hitchcock, 1958)
Fun thing to think about very briefly: who currently has better lawyers, the United States or Nintendo
You gotta hand it to Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris: they were the only two people who predicted that Donald Trump would be bad
Weird location for a humblebrag. Also she didnβt βpredictβ this stuff would happen. She just didnβt do enough to stop it
Canβt think of a better one
Martin Short was the king of βTake It Or Leave Itβ characters like Ed Grimley, Jackie Rogers Jr. or Troy Soren where you either think itβs brilliant or you literally canβt stand him (I think itβs brilliant), pioneering work in cringe comedy

If l've never watched before, where should I start? NGL
Start with the 4th season, when they started on NBC, they explain the conceit in the opening credits and many of the sketches in the first half of that season are some of their greatest hits from the early years.
As did I
SCTVβs punk rock parody on Melβs Rock Pile which is legit good and with actual eighties punk energy, not corny, huge huge laugh at the look on Candyβs face as the drummer when they cut back to him.

Where can I get a 7" of The Queen Haters?
I donβt think you can buy the song βI Hate The Bloody Queenβ by The Queen Haters but I was once introduced to the punk guitarist who plays the solo Eugene Levy is miming in that sketch. Candy and OβHara in particular had connections to Torontoβs cool music scene in the eighties
Will the Scorsese reunion doc ever see the light of day? NGL
It was filmed 8 years ago and is still officially βpostponedβ not officially cancelled, I was there and hope it eventually sees the light of day, Iβve heard every excuse from technical problems to rights issues to Scorseseβs schedule as the reason why not. OβHaraβs death reminds us they should hurry
Aaam buuuumed oooooot
What Canadian reference would have been most confusing to Americans at the time? And now? NGL
On the SCTV where a writers strike means they show CBC programming there is a βHinterland Whoβs Whoβ parody commercial where there is no joke, they just do a straightfaced ad read about a woodchuck exactly like the real ones. Americans would be like βhuh? I donβt get itβ, Canadians would be howling

Is it true there are plenty of jobs in Toronto? NGL
πΆThere's a rainbow in Toronto where the Maritimers are bold
They always get a potfull but they never get a pot of gold
But they're to it and at it at it and to it
Ya gotta tune your attitude in
If ya don't get at it when ya get to it
Ya won't get to it to get at it again
They said it! They said they got lots of work done because there wasnβt much else to distract them
Did Bobby Bittman and Lola Heatherton ever get it on? NGL
Lola Heatherton alleged that indeed Bobby βHow Was I?β Bittman was one of the men she slept with at SCTV, along with Guy Caballero and Johnny LaRue, she revealed this on her live comeback special. This was before she finally found love with the choreographer Juul Haalmeyer in 1982
That was a really funny one βRome, Italian Styleβ or something
He said what he said
βA DOJ source told the Miami Herald that agents found her to be credibleβand that they would not have interviewed her four times if they thought she was lying.β

favorite extended parody, movie or otherwise? NGL
Iβll name one nobody names: they did a 10 minute parody of the sixties melodrama The Oscar called The Nobel which was a parody on a granular level of one of the worst movies ever made (complimentary). The important thing about SCTVβs appeal is that they were trying to make EACH OTHER laugh
What would an SCTV Ella McCay sketch look like?
The SCTV Ella McCay parody would have starred Edith Prickley as Ella PrickLay
NGL question: βGiven the rumor that certain cast members rejected the idea of Jim Carrey joining as a potential new cast member during the Cinemax season, do you think the show could have carried on with a rotating cast a la SNL?β
Iβm glad we got that final Cinemax season even if itβs not as good, but you could see by that point that the end was nigh, the pressure was on the remaining cast to do other things, the new cast werenβt as equipped. SCTV was critically acclaimed /well respected but the ratings were never there.
Mrs Faldo was great but you canβt beat Floyd Robertson / Count Floyd and his multi-season struggles with alcoholism and hating Earl with every fiber of his being
