San Francisco's Vision Zero efforts—to eliminate roadway fatalities and severe injuries—have failed because the City hasn't focused on making it safer and faster to walk, bike, and take public transit, which would help people shift trips from cars to walking, biking, and transit.
The curbside bikeways on Valencia Street between 15th and 23rd are coming along and a huge improvement. Thanks to everyone who supported @StreetsForward.org's campaign for curbside bikeways!

We congratulate Director Kirschbaum on being named SFMTA’s permanent Director of Transportation and look forward to working with her to transform San Francisco’s streets and transportation system and help people shift trips from cars to bikes, public transit, and other sustainable transportation.
SFMTA beginning construction of the curbside bikeways on Valencia Street—replacing the flawed center bikeway—is a great step forward.
Now, the City needs to extend the curbside bikeways to Cesar Chavez Street and widen the bikeways for the entirety of Valencia, ideally in 2025.
SFMTA’s plan to not expand parking meter hours in the evening and on Sundays is disastrous and inequitable, and runs counter to the goals and policies SFMTA and the City claim to prioritize. SFMTA must expand parking meter hours to fund Muni and other transportation improvements.
SFMTA should be making daylighting intuitive by installing bike corrals, bikeshare stations, planters or benches in daylighting spaces.
In the meantime, ignoring state law and allowing cars to be store within 20 feet of crosswalks decrease public safety.
We need leadership now.
Electric cars—and electric car chargers—will not solve the climate crisis nevermind our roadway safety crisis.
To address our climate crisis and roadway safety crisis, we must help people shift trips from cars to bikes, public transportation and other sustainable transportation.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously rejected the appeal of the Mid-Valencia Curbside Bikeway Project, and construction of the curbside bikeways will begin on February 10 👏

The Valencia Curbside Bikeway Project—which was approved by the SFMTA Board in November and supposed to begin construction in early January—was appealed by 3–5 merchants.

The California Coastal Commission approved the permit authorizing the closure of Upper Great Highway to private car traffic (aka converting the space into a park and public outdoor recreation space)!
This is a massive step towards the creation a new, full-time oceanfront park 👏
