my general gdc thought is that what is required for me to have an enjoyable experience is to be adopted by an extrovert in my particular field; this did not happen the one time i went and i feel it would be unlikely to happen in the future

its okay, i wont be very good at the game anyway
if i buy it on steam and then stream it to my steamdeck from my pc how bad of an experience would this be
starting to worry that i might pick up Marathon
started watching gravity falls with the kiddo today to prime her for eventually watching the xfiles and/or twin peaks
trying not to make snarky posts about gdc
I do think the standard vs dst debate is silly, it's completely subjective and there is no right answer. just flip a coin
I also know I would generally be happier if my kid's school started an hour later (others in the area do!!!) but I can't change that either
that said, my main concern is stopping the clocks from changing please make it stop
I didn't have an opinion on daylight savings vs standard until I had a kid who I had to get to school, because doing that before sunrise is Not Fun
it's also entirely possible the remaster looks the way it does because the art director wanted it to look that way. maybe they just didn't like beam lighting. who knows!
and sure, ppl can disagree with the results, but making assumptions about process is bad.
what you get with programmable shaders and compute is... flexibility. you are never boxed in if you have the time and know how and directorial freedom to make those choices
it wasn't physically accurate at all, it didn't have any specularity or reflection because the system was designed for diffuse indirect light only, but it looked pretty good imo
on the lamplighters league, we had oil tiles that could catch on fire. I wanted the fire to light up the scene. filling it with point lights would look weird and be too expensive.
I already had written a custom probe lighting system... so I injected light volumes into it for the fire
the premise is basically "modern lighting is expensive so they probably had to cut things" and: if you want more lighting you can do it! if you lower the quality. lots of times that's the right choice
a video crossed my feed the other day about why beam lighting was removed from the metroid prime remaster and it really grinds my gears. ppl, especially experienced devs, shouldn't be making assumptions about the constraints titles they didn't work on had
I tried to read the article and before it was cutoff for the paywall I thought it was interesting that they kept calling Docter "conflict averse."
because this isn't about "protecting children", it's about protecting biased parents
I remember really enjoying resurrections, which I watched from the safety and comfort of my own couch because it was 2021
the other week I read something about there being a 5th matrix movie and the article also remarked that the 4th matrix movie made the least amount of money in the franchise without bothering to talk about the global conditions happening when it was released
like even when they use an AR wall or the volume or whatever its for location stuff. star trek discovery used it for the shuttle bay and strange new worlds for engineering but most stuff was just... shot on a set
I keep coming back to the Project Hail Mary "we built the interior of the spaceship as a set" reactions. is this unique? when was there a major scifi property on a spaceship that didn't build a set?
tired: you can't prove generative AI doesn't have consciousness
wired: you can't prove humans do have consciousness
ah yeah that covers it, but it could use a more sciency sounding name tbh
is there like an equivalent word for pareidolia but for consciousness? cause assuming we make it through this I bet there will be some fun psych papers to write
A black cat with it's tongue sticking out, a blep
What
it's friday night, time to randomly be nostalgic for 90s wing commander games
(I have an EV but.... still)
on the one hand i think it is not really very good to be looking at our country's imperialist war through the lens of "what will this do to gas prices" but also.... that
happy marathon ost day to those who celebrate
