Chounen is also responsible for training the mounts of the other Dragon Warriors and she takes it on herself to train any mounts used by the Imperial family and those who serve them.

With her ability to communicate with animals, Chounen has a distinct advantage. She is able to pull off stunts that would be impossible for anyone else. She and Kadjem, her current horse, get along wonderfully.

Keverynn is home to many strange plants with varying degrees of edibility. Among those that are commonly cultivated are cloudtop mushrooms and ojube are popular as they require little maintenance.

Yalderinn is a tasteless herb grown in Gira’loyis Province. It’s used to treat severe head trauma and has the side effect of rendering a person unconscious.

This was such a good book

A red-haired woman in a long-sleeved red shirt under a short-sleeved black tunic. Her pants are white and tucked into brown boots. She rides an equine creature that somewhat resembles a horse with shaggy fur that only goes down to its knees, a short tail, and dragonfly wings. The legs from the knee down are covered in black scales, and the legs end in cloven hooves.

The wyndchilds of Keverynn are one of the species that has gone through the most drastic changes from conception to now. While their resemblance to horses is superficial, they fall under the equine species banner, so they're included.

Jellyshrooms are about the size of an index finger and found in spread out clusters of up to 19. They are bulbous and weighty. Their drooping red caps are covered in bumps. They are slightly luminescent.

Cross stitch is pretty easy, actually.

The flower known as chume'taly's ear grows mostly in Me'chu'sholan Province, but it can often be found in southern Gira'loyis Province as well. It is often used in art and other mediums to indicate the province or its people. The flower has a dark green stem and an orange blossom shaped like a cat ear.

The kavaliira is a tree native to the Chume'taly Forest. It's wood is notorious for not holding glue very well. Only the chume'taly know how to work with it. The image is a tree with a twisting trunk and clusters of dark green leaves.

The centauricorn people of Melphor aren't a common sight outside of the homeland, but they're still well-known to the other races.

This one in particular is Uktala the Bountiful, an elder among the gods.

The Soulforge Alliance, with Empress Hihaye at their head, won the War of the Roses. This led to the death of Empress Hilandra, the erradication of the kairyyl people, and the ban on entering Kaishivan (now known as the Forbidden Lands). Linndan, the protagonist, is called on to witness the execution of a woman found wandering around in the Forbidden Lands and uncovers traces that the kairyyl aren't as extinct as they thought.

Within each country, the government is relatively stable, with some rulers doing a better job of it than others. The problem with having an immortal monarch is that Hihaye doesn't view things through the same lense as mortals do. She lacks the sense of urgency they do as she focuses on longer term matters.

As their last act of leadership before stepping away, the gods set up rulers in their countries. Those rulers have control over their country, but ultimately answer to the empresses. Prior to the War of the Roses, the countries more or less kept to themselves, rarely feeling the need to bring matters to the empresses. In the event known as the Forging, relations between the countries (excluding Kaishivan) were formalized. The emblem of the Souforge Alliance is a golden shield emblazoned with a many-rayed sun. Behind it are replicas of the staves of office from its member countries.

Partly because most people wouldn't understand going to other worlds, but also because horses on Melphor have cloven hooves. Keverynn's don't. So he passes this off as a deformity.

Linndan has had a lot of horses in his long life. Xan is the latest one.
Xantoxu is the only other horse in the Aetherium to have a name on the page.
Xan is actually from Keverynn, a fact Linndan has to hide when he's forced to return to Melphor.

When Hilandra and Hihaye were born in 1342 BF, the gods sensed an opportunity. They'd grown bored with dealing with mortal matters. And so, in 1321 BF, Hihaye and Hilandra became empresses of Miltan and Kaishivan respecitvely, replacing their divine mothers. Hilandra is a woman with long grey hair and purple eyes. She is wearing a black outfit with purple gloves and boots with a silver belt.

The best way to describe it is as an absolute monarchy. During the Golden Age, the countries were ruled over by the gods at the insistence of the people. They'd been through centuries of cruel, selfish, and often tyrannical rulers. Astareya is a woman with golden skin and dark feathers instead of hair. Shan-Illu is a blonde woman in a gold and white dress.

The gods, on the other hand, were known to be harsh but fair in their dealings with mortals. With their immortality, the belief was that this would provide stability. Aquihilte is a tanned woman with reddish-brown hair tied up with a gold band. Lankirrinve is a tanned man with long grey hair, a grey beard, a golden hoop in his ear, and a long black horn.

Kiten was all-too glad to relinquish Her role. Kiren is a pale green reptile with grey horns and a blue top. Kephru is a pale woman with black hair in a dark purple dress. Her skin has black stripes.

My proofreading and beta reading gigs say fantasy, but in reality I've worked on books in a wide range of genres.

Today, for example, I'm working on a self-help book with a ton of Buddhist terms used.

I specialize in fantasy, but I enjoy being exposed to things I might never pick up on my own.

While the other monarchs have councils and advisors, Empress Hihaye does not. When advice is needed, she consults her Rose Knights or goes so far as to speak to the gods. The white, sun-rayed rose over a gold diamond shape is the emblem of the Rose Knights.

The stripes on the saddle blanket indicate where the rider is stationed. In this case, Nuren is on his way to his new post at Summer Waters.

I've mentioned the Forbidden Lands a few times now and the punishment for being anywhere near them. During the War of the Roses(6 BF - 1 AF), that part of the world was ravaged by magic, obliterating its people and making the entire country uninhabitable. The border had to be moved to create a buffer zone between what was now called the Forbidden Lands and Miltan proper. Now, being near there is an automatic death sentence.
