Entering a user's blacksky, myatproto or cryptoanarchy handle into a browser will now redirect to their blacksky.community profile page

e.g. lockthewriter.blacksky.app

This will hopefully be less prominent over time as we continue to index the billions of records on the network.

To improve transparency and hopefully reduce confusion we have added a "Backfill in progress" badge to account profiles.

The badge shows if there's a big enough difference between someones follow/post counts according to Blacksky vs. the rest of the ATmosphere (Bluesky, Microcosm, etc.)

There may be pages that do not have blobs (profile images) and full followers counts shown due to backfilling. Backfilling is the process of syncing all data in the network from scratch. ~50% of accounts are synced. This process will take time, but you will still be able to use your account as usual

From Survivor, to Researcher, to Steward

Join our very own @drkalyncoghill.blacksky.team at @medlabboulder.bsky.social on March 12 discussing how their own experience fueled their decades-long research on digital harm and how Blacksky is taking what was once considered "me-search" and creating a safer internet rooted in self-determination.

Updates will go out shortly for our staging environment which runs entirely independently on our own servers, separate from Bluesky.

We'll also be pushing the pronouns update over to there shortly.

The Germ DM button is supported in the blacksky.community client.
Note: Germ is available on iOS but you will see this button on any device if the user has it enabled.

We have fixed a bug related to a recent PDS deployment that affected our hosted accounts. The bug would affect anything related to handles (mentions, invalid.handle, viewing profiles, etc). Your accounts will automatically go back to normal as you post and engage. Thanks for your patience!

This update also brings in other changes from the Bluesky client such as drafts and an updated UI.

We also made various quality of life updates such as issues with a floating input box when sending DMs, etc.

The blacksky.community web app has been updated to support OAuth login. This means we have gotten rid of the "Hosting Provider" field when signing into our app, making it more straightforward to use our app even if you aren't yet hosted on our PDS (e.g. if you have a *.bsky.social handle)
