3D visualization tool for the Leo Triplet! π
After posting the last photo, I was struck by curiosity and have been entertaining myself with Python, with the help of ChatGPT and DeepSeek.

The Leo triplet captured and fast processed by a Seestar S50. The three galaxies are gravitationally linked: 1- M66 (NGC 3627, lower left): The most visibly distorted, showing a displaced core and high star formation rates due to the interaction. 2- NGC 3628 (The Hamburger Galaxy, upper): Displays a "boxy" bulge and a massive tidal tail of gas and stars being pulled away. 3- M65 (NGC 3623, lower right): While appearing more "normal," it still shows a slightly warped disk from past gravitational disturbances
Identification provided by astrometry.net
The Leo Triplet is a cosmic dance 35M light-years away. Gravitational tug-of-war between M65, M66, and NGC 3628 has warped their shapes.
πΉ M66: Asymmetric arms & starbursts.
πΉ NGC 3628: A 300k light-year tidal tail.
πΉ M65: The calmest of the trio.

This is always funny to see: time of abstract submission to the LiΓ¨ge Colloquium. I am not the only one submitting my abstracts really close to the deadline π.
In any case, we have extended a few days, so you still have time to push that Y-axis up! New deadline 16 February 2026 #LiegeOcean26 ππ§ͺ

M33. Image captured using a Seestar S50
Some astronomical objects detected in the image using the plate solver provided by astrometry.net
The Triangulum Galaxy (M33) lies about 3 million light-years away, seen as it was when early humans in Ethiopia began using stone tools.
2 hours 40 minutes of images processed in Seestar S50 using their AI enhancement, with final edits in Google Photos on mobile.

View of spiral galaxy NGC-891 (also known as C23) using Seestar S50. The filamentary patterns perpendicular to the galactic plane (barely discernible in this image) are thought to be ejected dust from supernova explosions. 772 x 30-second images stacked using a Naztronomy script. Processed in GraXpert and Siril, then post-processed using Google Photos.
#NGC-891 (Caldwell 23) is an unbarred spiral galaxy located about 32 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. It is considered to be very similar to our own Milky Way galaxy and would appear similar when viewed edge-on.

This shows how sea surface temperature has evolved in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea over the period 6β8 January 2026. A cold water mouth is forming.
Mediterranean Sea surface temperature on January 8, 2026. The cold water mouth can be clearly seen in the north of the Adriatic Sea.
Wind speed and direction on January 7, 2026 from https://windy.app/
A cold water surface mouth in the northern Adriatic Sea for the past three days has developed (data.marine.copernicus.eu/product/SST_... CNR-ISMAR L4 product). I couldn't find cloud-free satellite images to verify this, but it is consistent with the strong winds observed in the region.ππ§ͺ

I probably won't have a chance to capture more images this year, so here is my 2025 #Astrophotography Highlights video, set to MVHS Madrigals Choir music. It features planetary and galaxy images taken with my new Meade 8" SCT. I still have a lot to learn, enjoy! youtu.be/a48QNu2IC7w?...
It's not the best that can be achieved with the Seestar S50, but there have been too many weeks without clear skies. Summarized in Spanish "me puede el ansia"

π Last week @justino.info from ICATMAR took part in the Marine Heat Waves from Space: from detection to prediction workshop at the @esa.int Science Hub.
An inspiring exchange on improving the monitoring and prediction of #MarineHeatWaves to better understand and protect ocean health.
Happy to participate in the creation of this White Paper summarizing key concepts and future guidelines for #MHW-related activities.
