In a speech to supporters last night, Mamdani said, “Tonight, we made history.”
He added: “I will be the mayor for every New Yorker, whether you voted for me, for Governor Cuomo, or felt too disillusioned by a long, broken political system to vote at all.”
Andrew Cuomo previously resigned from office in 2021 after sexual harassment allegations. He joined Netanyahu's legal team last year to defend Netanyahu against ICC’s war crime claims. His backers included Bill Clinton, the real estate lobby, and at least $25 million in corporate donations.
Cuomo conceded last night after results showed Mamdani with a clear lead. Mamdani ran a campaign centred on taxing the wealthy and providing all New Yorkers with free public buses, universal childcare, freezing rent and city-run grocery stores.
Zohran Mamdani has won the New York City mayoral primary race, overtaking the disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo.
Mamdani, the 33-year-old democratic socialist, will likely become the city’s mayor in November’s election, as the primary race tends to determine the outcome of that election.

To date, the UK government continues to supply weapons licences and support to Israel in its genocidal assault on Palestinians. Just 10% of arms licences were suspended last year, and the UK has even admitted to providing military training to Israeli forces earlier this month.
The draconian move to ban Palestine Action comes after two UK military planes were damaged in a protest last week.
Home secretary Yvette Cooper said in a statement to parliament today that the draft proscription order will be laid out on 30 June, and would become law after following the parliamentary process.
The UK government has confirmed it will ban Palestine Action under anti-terrorism laws, making it a criminal offence to belong to or support the direct action group.

According to Declassified, the Labour government had until now refused to answer questions on UK involvement in training Israeli military personnel.
It is now confirmed that Britain is actively involved in training a foreign military currently engaged in genocide.
The information was made public in response to a question by Labour MP Rachael Maskell, who asked: "When the last time was that a member of the IDF was trained by the UK armed forces."
Parliamentary under-secretary of state for the armed forces Luke Pollard disclosed on 11 June that the UK is providing training for “a limited number” of Israeli military members as part of “routine defence engagement with Israel”.
The UK Ministry of Defence has admitted that it’s currently training Israeli military personnel on British soil.

The People’s Tribunal on Police Killings is an initiative of the United Families & Friends Campaign, Migrant Media and 4WardEver UK.
Activist and filmmaker Ken Fero, who is helping to lead the action, said via the Guardian: “There are many, many families all over the UK, and there have been for five decades, who suffer in silence. We have to do something radical that involves everybody. And that’s the idea of a class action.”
According to the event organisers, there have been 3,000 deaths involving the police in the UK over the past 50 years, while only four police officers have been convicted over a killing.
The evidence will form the basis of the first-ever legal action directed at police officers, chiefs and government departments that were involved in the deaths.
