Ljubljana BicikeLJ subscription options: 3 euros for a year, or 1 euro for a week
The same JCDecaux system in Ljubljana is still 3 euros per year for unlimited free 60-min rides
(Vienna used to offer unlimited free 60-min rides with just a 1 euro signup fee, no subscription, from 2003 until 2022, when we switched from JCDecaux to higher-quality Nextbike)

Yeah, prices in LA turned out several orders of magnitude lower than any of the US and Canadian bikeshare systems I'm aware of when I looked them up

My impression is that unlike at home in Vienna, where motorists expect cyclists to only ever move in perfectly straight lines, French motorists are much more used to the constant possibility a cyclist may show up from any direction and turn in any direction, and adjust their driving accordingly

(To be fair LA Metro is a bit of a special case since both their transit fares and bikeshare prices are exceptionally low by NA standards โ still afaics there are no free bikeshare rides for low-income riders, unlike on the transit system)

Classic survivorship bias: When bikeshare, which tends to be much cheaper to operate than transit, is priced above a transit ride/pass, it will only ever attract cost-insensitive demographics โ meanwhile Toulouse bikeshare attracts an obviously much more diverse user base

Must be the latter, but no one (sensible) ever asks that about local transit busses :)

Bikeshare station with docks
A pass for Toulouse's bikeshare system (managed by the transit authority) costs 2 euros for a day or 26 euros for a year, each with unlimited free 30 min rides <3

Barrier-protected bidirectional bike lane
Temporary bike lane markings in a construction zone
Nothing nicer than biking in France, where bike traffic seemingly never has to stop and the fact that despite that there seem to be hardly any close calls really underscores that for cyclists there's simply so much safety in numbers

Besides the presence of a small number of police officers (which is rare during fare inspections in Vienna) the only deviation from best practices was that staff positioned to prevent people from turning around was also wearing uniforms, which makes them less effective against more attentive evaders

Got prevented from taking a photo, but Toulouse knows how to do metro fare inspections properly: Right at the station exits, lots of fare inspectors (also a small number of police officers), and some staff positioned to prevent people from turning around when they see the fare inspectors at the exit

A menu page listing regular and happy hour prices for desserts. The happy hour prices apply within Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary only. Price differences tend to be lower for other categories.
ComfortJet catering:
- 3 staff for just 18 seats in the dining car
- No menus or staff taking orders in 1st class (major source of revenue on ๐ฆ๐น trains)
- Prices ~double once trains leave the fmr eastern bloc, way more expensive than on ๐ฆ๐น/๐ฉ๐ช trains
- Online ordering possible only 5+ days in advance

Interior view from the same last row, in first class
It's a solid Railjet derivative that's imo slightly more comfortable in 2nd class than the original Railjets and slightly less so in 1st class, and brings a significant increase in capacity (several additional 2nd class coaches) to services that previously ran with Railjets.

I mean otoh that very approach wors relatively well in Austria, with far fewer staffing shortage related issues than the current decentralized approach in Germany
