You can't file for bankruptcy because the private student loans very rarely get discharged. You can apply for a settlement but the forgiven part could be listed as taxable, so at tax time I'd be punished for it...you can't win.
Sorry for the rant. Sometimes I regret my bachelor's degree.

Sallie Mae (then went to navient, and now it's with mohela) set this up and I've never been able to pay it down, no matter how much they've asked for. 14.25%?! I've paid over $13k to this thing over the course of 10 years and I feel like I'll never see the end of it.
