Post WWII, by guaranteeing Western Europe’s defence, the U.S. kept the peace. Centuries of conflict yielded to co-operation and the formation of the EU. Do we really want to turn back the clock?

Even some of Trump’s loudest critics begrudgingly acknowledged that bullying NATO members to pay more for their defense was a good thing. Not so fast! In the 90s I recall reading an Economist piece that asked the question: Would we really be comfortable with a remilitarized Germany on the Continent?

I just wish they would accurately report how rambling and unhinged his latest “speeches” have been. His attention span gets shorter and shorter—he can’t make a point without a segway to his grievances. His rambling address to the nation on the Venezuela invasion/kidnapping is a perfect example.

Most of the other Nobel Prizes are awarded years after the recipients’ actions that qualify them for consideration. That lapse in time helps provide the committee with some needed perspective. The Peace Prize would benefit greatly from the same practice.

Why aren’t the rest of the Dem governors joining Walz in condemning this? Solidarity is the only way to combat Trump’s actions and threats.

Dem’s should come out forcefully pledging to give Greenland back to Denmark if they win the White House in 2028. Put GOP Senators on notice that their support for this nonsense will be a total waste of time and effort. It would also go a long way to repairing relations with the EU.

Also, what happened to fact-checking his speeches? He told so many lies. It took moments on bsky for people to point out DC’s murder rate wasn’t zero. He politicized the speech—Presidents used to be heavily criticized for politicizing an address to the nation after an act of war.

Trump’s address to the nation/press conference was a rambling mess. He kept going off on tangents trying to score political points. His justification for the invasion came late in the speech after he’d stepped on his own toes. Expected the NYTimes to lead with: In a rambling speech to the nation, …”
