How genuinely surprising
Babylon was the exact episode my dad and I stopped watching and I think it was because I told him it was that rough.
My favorite season is S3, mostly for the dark comedy in every episode, the expansion of the world, and showing the higher-ups as incompetent stooges only interested in their own legacies.
A little, but the last three seasons make up for that a lot by showing the real impact of policing versus community support
I was just about to suggest this! First you get the feel-bad time of the plot, then you get the feel-bad time of knowing two-thirds of the plot won't see the light of day. It's a perfect experience.

Fun fact - My dream live-action Netflix project would be an adaptation of Barry Hughart's Master Li and Number Ten Ox with Stephen Chow playing Master Li.
I'd imagine cultural cachet plays a part, but what part I couldn't possibly comment.
Stephen Chow is great, and Shaolin Soccer (and its OELM adaptation) are fun as hell. Go in with no expectations, hopefully come out with a sweet time.
