Some good news to start the year.

Tyre transport tracking reports are up by 75%. Meaning a safer environment for you.

More operators are stepping up by doing the right thing (but there’s still work to do in 2026).

Smoke from #VicFires has reached parts of Gippsland. The south west regions and Melbourne are still experiencing fair to poor air quality.

We recommend people with sensitivities take precautions.

These conditions are expected to remain through the afternoon and into the evening.

We strongly recommend using a licensed asbestos removalist.

Using trained professionals is the safest option. They know how to remove and dispose of asbestos safely, without putting you, your family or neighbours at risk.

We recommend you do not inspect the fire-damaged rubble and ash.

If you do stay safe:
🔷 avoid handling burnt building materials where possible
🔷 keep rubble wet to reduce dust
🔷 wear personal protective equipment

Returning home after a fire can be overwhelming.

There’s a lot to take in, and safety might not be the first thing on your mind. But it’s important to be aware, If your home or nearby buildings were built before 2003, asbestos may be present. #vicfires #bushfire #ausfires

@tfyoung.bsky.social I got a response from the team.

We are going to issue a notice. This means they need to use someone qualified to clean up the fire water. And we will investigate the cause of the fire and any breaches of the law.

We have installed air monitoring stations at Alexandra and Yea.

Residents and surrounds can now access current and forecasted air quality for their area.

Air quality for Yea is currently very poor and Alexandra is extremely poor.

🏠Seal up your home
Check for gaps around doors and windows. Seal them where you can. If you can’t, use wet towels to cover gaps when smoke is outside.

💦Avoid evaporative coolers
Evaporative coolers pull outside air into the house.

💨 use your HEPA air purifier if you have one
💨 avoid burning candles, incense, and smoking.
💨 wear a P2/N95 mask if you must go outside
💨 if it is safe consider going to a place with cleaner air and air-con (like a library or shopping centre).
💨 bring your pets and their bedding inside
