This is what it's like to be a YIMBY giving public comment at a Land Use committee meeting

Yeah this is why I put a decent amount of effort - not like a lot a lot but definitely some - into learning how to use this stuff
Do enterprise next
Two sentences from Marco Rubio about how Trump let Israel drag us into a conflict where US troops are being killed probably will do more to fix things in the US and Israel than basically anything I can possibly think of.
Vote Blue No Matter Who and just say some prayers or born some incense or I donβt know what, something.
Such a high variance play - could be great, could be saddled with a real freaking problem for six years.
Yeah I'm really just grasping at straws here
I really really want to beat Susan Collins, and Janet Mills is obviously a walking nothingness.
Iβm just holding onto hope that this guy gets his shit together? Like a teeny tiny bit of hope?
Chat what is 2026-1989
Lotof my cynicism here comes from Berkeleyβs 2012 complete streets policy. It was a box they had to check to get measure BB funds, they checked the box, and then never took a single action to implement the policy.
Just for learning software and tech things - I have no idea how a person learns how to code today.
And yes you still need to know what code does and how it works and what good and bad code is because ultimately you are responsible for what your systems do or donβt do.
No pun intended
Well Iβm glad to hear that thereβs a viable roadmap
Very different political problem though. Require new building and only people near the new building care. Take a lane from a busy street, have people sitting in traffic next to an empty bike lane, many more people to get pissed off.
Itβs tough - money being fungible and all of that.
I think the bike/ped equivalent would be some kind of change to liability rules. Require cities to plan a bike network and hold them liable for injuries and deaths that occur on parts of the network that hasnβt been implemented.
Many such cases!
*cough* the climate action plan *cough*
It's right up there with the bike plans that lay out these amazing routes, and then you read the fine print and see that it's not "this is what we plan to build", it's "maybe one day we will do a study of this thing"
Insiders and wonks understand this, regular people do not
Cities: "We're going to say we want zero traffic deaths, but we want achieve that without actually changing the way we do anything."
1. Safety is our highest priority. Human life is more important than speed, convenience, or property. We will evaluate trade-offs and make both proactive and reactive engineering decisions about street design based on this value.
This is just factually not true. Priorities can be observed - safety is clearly not the highest priority.
Obviously the best thing would be to make it true, but absent that, just revoke this document. Take down the website. Align the cities words words with its actions.
This is why I think the street safety communityβs position should be that the city council should revoke the vision zero action plan, the 2017 bike plan, and should decline to accept a new bike plan.
If they donβt want to actually build this stuff thatβs fine, I guess, but please donβt gaslight us.
I think we need a maximum individual inheritance and a maximum estate size.
100% taxes over 5 billion for an individual inheritance and 20 billion for an estate.
Happy path here is we sleepwalk into a traffic apocalypse where we had no choice but to invest in transit with dedicated rights of way because there literally is no other way to move people between two places.
East bay is lucky - our streets were literally built for that. We can RETVRN.
Hey if youβre right, great, and I am more than happy to have you and other folks out on the cutting edge here.
This is what this argument (that small business wonβt need accounting software) sounds like to me, but π€· we will find out imgs.xkcd.com/comics/physi...
I have used the tools. Iβve nuked git repo, deleted my database, and blown up my AWS bill. Within and adjacent to my area of expertise Iβve used it to do amazing (to me) things that I would never have even attempted before.
Would I use it to do my taxes? Hell fucking no I would not.
Yeah but a lot of those people are either gonna go bankrupt or go to jail when their vibe coded logistics and accounting apps screw them over.
People really *need* to believe that their troubles are the result of greedy developers and corrupt politicians, psychologically they cannot handle that their own preferences and votes are the cause of all of this.
Ah, if only we had one
I mean for one, I definitely have seen it in another country, Turkey, which has massive images of Erdogan and Ataturk everywhere (or at least did in 2007).
That said it is good of them to keep making more kindling for the great national bonfire we're going to have on Jan 20 2029
Taco truck on every corner, when?!
Doesnβt need to be fancy.
Doesnβt need to be big.
Doesnβt need to be expensive.
Just needs to make a driver drive more slowly.
Simple.
I just think a good law in a post filibuster world would be that principal officers and major shareholders in major defense contractors canβt be drug addicts, immigration cheats, Epstein friends, or otherwise generally criminals.
And if they do, sorry, youβre fired/expropriated.
