I love the Declaration, but “at the birth of a nation” derailed my attention. As a concept, it has been at the center of the “lost cause” promoted by the Klan as other white supremacist causes.
Maybe “the beginning of this nation” for the next take.

Note: the Saint Louis art museum is free to the public every day forever, as are many other museums, because a small tax in the city and county have funded 19+ public institutions for over a century. The bottle caps are the first thing you see in the modern wing.

The ACA isn't just "health care for people who don't have a conventional employer." It also disallows something that was incredibly common 20 years ago, which I fear is getting lost to generational memory: insurance companies could deny you health care for essentially any previous health problem.

The crayon portrait at the top of this thread, inspired by local kid-designed “I voted” stickers.
When does the sticker contest start at the library?

Black Communities Across the US Refuse to Be Sacrifice Zones for Data Centers
From Texas to Virginia and everywhere in between, Black residents are confronting these projects in different ways.
Could it be any more “Saint Louis” than “sacrifice zones” targeting the Black community. Why are we talking about longer contracts? We are still trying to finish the Mallenkrodt cleaning and settlement after 80 years.

If ACA goes away and people have to find their own policies you can count on millions of people being denied coverage because of preexisting conditions. The ACA made it illegal for insurance companies to refuse coverage or raise rates for preexisting medical issues. I know because I was one of them.

Teen Vogue took young people seriously. It's impossible to overstate how important, how rare, and how profoundly needed that is.

In the spirit of the times, this could be used in the way phrenology was by the Axis. Eugenics is back.

It’s been really disheartening to see the things people say about those who use SNAP. Many seem to have little understanding of why the program exists in the first place.

Yup. #MS at 22 in the early 90s. I was job-locked in my 30s until the #ACA. I feel like the healthcare discussion needs to explain pre-existing conditions since it was a HUGE win for those with #chronicillness.

People should look up Horst Wessel and how the Nazis used his murder to create a martyr and accelerate their movement and march towards fascism.

I feel like we need to keep saying “Affordable Care Act”; “Obamacare” activates the framing the GOP has chosen for us. The term should be retired.

My English degree went a long way into a 25 year career working with stem schools around the country. I don’t see it as a boomer thing, I see it as money flowing into sci and tech and increasingly devaluing the humanities. 5/
