Ducks Daily Roundup for Monday 9 March 2026
"you can make all the insane art you want... if you just become a capitalist and and exploit workers"... is the message im learning from this movie. Bah humbug. for real end thread π§΅
Ok i nearly fell asleep there, thread over maybe ill ramble a bit more after waking up, we gotta see that making of.
Anyway yes, masterpiece movie, S-tier. Didnt go as i expected, fuck you werner herzog lol
I was expecting this to end in a tragedy, but no its a happy ending, but no he's a fucking rubber baron himself now. Ah fuck you werner, you asshole.
But it was worth, its an insane piece of art about the making of isane pieces of art.
Ok so the movie is indeed about making weird art, about having a vision and making it happen.
But the message i take away is that he made it happen by becoming a fuckin rubber baron lol. Become a capitalist if you want to make insane art, then just do what you want.
Meanwhile its nearly 18:00 and im falling asleep. i should end this. Uhm closing thoughts....
Ah and here it is, Puerto Maldonado. I put the google maps marker on the shortest spots between the rivers there, and wow
He became a rubber baron himself, by using native people. Then the natives told him about a path between the river, and there it is the city of Puerto Maldonado was founded there.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_...
Early on he was captured by soldiers, nearly executed but saved. After he went to north peru and wasnt seen for 10 years. And he did exploit the legends the natives had already ala paul atreides.
Ok so the real guy was the son of an irish/american sailor and a peruvian mom. And he enslaved native groups for rubber, i fucking knew it.
ok and is there a city now where this happened. Movie version says this, but i should prolly read the irl version.
Ok and the production. Only injuries, no deaths thank fuck. Good job Werner. A production like this could have gone so horribly wrong.
So the IRL guy just dissasembled a boat and reassembled on the other side. It was werner who turned this into the filming opulence that is that movie then hah. Ah and it was worth it, this is such an amazing metaphor
Ok first question anwsered, yes its based on a real story but the guy was actually peruvian. And not a german abroad huh.
Im guessing werner made the character white because he knew so much more people would see it. Even now in 2026 the MC of the movie is white most of the time.
And yeah werner herzog, in your quest to make this insane art, did any people die during this quest?. Ok its time to open the wiki
The movie is all about chasing that dream. Someone with a crazy idea to have opera in the jungle and looking around, using his education and going for an insane idea.
But to make that art dream a reality he has to become a capitalist, and people have died for this dream.
im probably gonna read in wikis in a moment that the irl guy wasnt so nice and probably many people got killed because of him.
Ok so before i start reading wikis... wow. Wow fucking wow. The happy ending i was not expecting, and im kind of bitter over it somehow. Because the happy ending is... that he became a rubber baron himself.
Theres no credits, he just cuts to black, the music fades out, movie ends.
I doubt thats this rip, this comes from a bluray, its probably on purpose. To not have credits after a movie like this, what the fuck what a statement.
he was in frame, enjoying from the back, on this moving outside shot on a boat in the fucking jungle. Fucking its insane cinematography. The camereman who took it must have been so proud.
Ah he's not sitting in the chair, because the chair was for the pig, he promised that earlier in the movie.
And thus werner also brought the opera to a boat in some jungle to make this shot.
And thus he is making his dream come true, the opera brought to the jungle.
So yeah this scene must be months later, he got that chair.
He sold the boat, because the boat was not important, and capital was. What was important is the knowledge this could be done, that humans can exploit this region. He's about to become a rubber baron himself
