It's not people disbelieving science, it is the complete failure of our system to keep corruption out of medicine, and MAHA is exploiting that distrust in the worst way possible.

Add into the mix one unscrupulous vaccine developer who gets his personal advertisement of the dangers of a competing vaccine published in a reputable medical journal, and it becomes even more complicated.

A lot of the people who don't vaccinate are mothers who are trying to protect their children, but they don't know how or don't have the time to sift through mountains of contradictory information that is available through the Internet, and so they (wrongly) assume the safest thing to do is opt out.

People can see with their own eyes that government policies aren't keeping them healthy. The power of lobbies has shaped the food pyramid for decades, and anyone who has half an eye on science notices this.

As a Humanities PhD who has fallen down the wellness rabbit hole several times in my life, it has nothing to do with not wanting to know, and everything to do with distrust engendered by the corporatization of medicine.

Well, my girl didn't win, but Talarico is no slouch. The priority is to hold all of these Democrats accountable to policy that truly benefits the working class.

Thinking about this blue heron who came to witness the sprinkling of my brother's ashes a couple summers ago.

Did not vote early simply because I needed to mull my choice longer, but going to vote for @crockett.house.gov tomorrow. The Republicans are severely underestimating her, and that's her secret weapon. Talarico is young: one loss won't define him.

Legendary founder of NPR programming Bill Siemering is enjoying Zoom visiting with students so much that he's asked me to put a second call out. No honorarium necessary. Any takers?

We've been renovating, and the kids have had no tv, no tablets, no video game consoles. Surprisingly, there have been no complaints. They run off and play with whatever they find. Today they built a fairy village in the backyard.

Couldn't sleep last night because of general anxiety. Finally got to sleep only to wake up this morning to the news we bombed a school. At least now it is very specific anxiety.

US Democrats take note: real voters can be gaslit for only so long. It is time to address their concerns through actual policy or risk losing (again).

#GlobalHumanities at #UTEP and the El Paso Museum of History bring you this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a Buddhist sand mandala being constructed. Construction started yesterday and will continue through Friday. The finished mandala will be unveiled at the New Year celebration on Saturday!

I see where Wim Wenders and Nick Cave are coming from. What is frustrating is that their eschewing of politics is what benefited them during the cold war. We're in an entirely different world now.

As former Minnesotan-turned-El Pasoan, I can't think of a better vacation than bringing my kids to play in the snow in Central Park. Had to drag them back to the hotel, wet and cold, because they wanted to keep sliding down a hill on their pants.

Saying "no humans were involved in this" is an excellent diagnosis of the problem here.

My favorite plant in El Paso. In the next few weeks the gray stalks will turn brown, tender green leaves will emerge from the thorns, and red flowers will crown the top like flames. Ocotillo: Lazarus of the desert.
