Nietzsche must have said ressentiment because he thought it was something different than envy. I mostly don't. The difference is resentment– and I'm just gonna use the English word– is born not just of wanting what someone has, but of a permanent frustration of the desire for revenge.
I think it's interesting that whenever social media erupts in outrage over the good fortune of others no one ever uses the word "envy".
