I feel like the sarcasm didn't come through on this one enough.
The US and Israel see Iran as a threat in the region because its sovereign government could break with international law and close the Strait of Hormuz if they wanted to, sending oil prices soaring, something they've never done.
That's why the US and Israel bombed them until they did that.
Don't forget that Iran could end this war simply by releasing all the hostages!
A lot of people are also ignoring the role of Iran here, in that it was Iran itself that promoted the idea that it is independent from superpowers and does not want to enter into formal military alliances with countries like China. It's not to say there is no cooperation, but it's not overt.
I would be truly shocked (and I can be wrong ofc) if China was to come out in support of Iran in the same way that the US did in Ukraine, simply because China does not have the same interests or desire like the US does. It brokered a deal between Saudi and Iran for a reason.
Just because an unnamed source says so doesn't mean there is an escalation from China.
China is supporting Iran in the same way it always has, but its greater concern (and interest) is stability in the region, hence the use of diplomatic channels to resolve issues.
