Survived this week's lectures thanks to off-brand panadol and nurofen. I don't recommend dental surgery as part of teaching prep generally, but lecturing for two hours straight with a half numb tongue was certainly an experience.

Do we think The Ramones "I Wanna Be Sedated" is about dentistry.

"Joyful Transgressions: Genre Mixing, Musical Disruptions, and Melodramatic Spectacle in Saturday Church" is out now! This piece was inspired by my presentation at the 2023 Trans Studies Conference in Illinois (feels like a lifetime ago now). www.researchgate.net/publication/...
February highs: seeing Lucy Dacus, Gigi Perez, Wet Leg, and Chappell Roan live. Art and penguins in Auckland.
February lows: broken washing machine, wisdom teeth, working three jobs, front door flooding and cat scratches on my face (from midnight storm-related cat panic attack). Messy fucking month.
Might be getting my bottom two wisdom teeth pulled three days before my first lecture of the year. Going to be full chipmunk mode in front of 200 first year students. What could possibly go wrong.
Maybe subconsciously a metaphor for the darkness inside me.
Seven-year-old Paige filled a floppy disc with (their own) terrible poetry about wolves.
Oh my God Jack I'm so sorry. She was lucky to have you as her family, even if it was only for a short time.
Progress: I have made it to the correct floor. But my office remains unreachable.
There is a coffee place on this floor but it doesn't open until 7:30 ๐ญ
Forgot my swipe and my keys for my first day back in the office and it's literally too early for security to be working so I guess I'm trapped in the building foyer for the foreseeable future.
Same here. We have five years worth of recorded lectures uploaded into Canvas across the whole university. That's so much content to feed into the despair machines.
Or we just need to convince someone to make me that cheesecake
It's fine. Not devastating at all.
๐ญ I knew i couldn't be that lucky.
Please tell me this cafe is in Wellington.

Scorching Bay looking pretty (pretty full of bacteria, hoping no one was planning any swimming in Wellington today).
Spending Boxing Day as god intended: binge watching a whole season of gay hockey players.

Survived round two of food and presents! Made my first (and last) Beef Wellington. Alex did the the pav. Following it up with Alice Maio Mackay's Carnage for Christmas.

Ty! His name is Old Man Banksy and he loves to be Festive (which is weird since he's possessed by the spirit of our least festive cat).

Baked Camembert was definitely the food highlight so far.

Critical context I did not provide originally: when used by cis people (rather than trans people using it to describe themselves).
Extremely valid!! Useful context I should've included was "when the term is used by cis people." More specifically, in an academic text. Which is perhaps why I was more cautious when reading it initially.
Omg i didn't even clock the typo, just read it as "can" because i know you ๐
