"AI is causing a Mexican standoff on software teams" β Marc Andreessen

Wild sunset tonight
Just published this thought: "Marc Andreessen: "There's Mexican standoff between roles on a software team""
Curious what you think...
Most people could automate more of their lives, but they don't.
They could use Apple Shortcuts, enable home automation (smart lights, smart furnace), use keyboard shortcuts, etc...
But most people don't.
Most people will just keep traveling the same simple path they've always taken.

One of the more clear-eyed takes on AI coding I've seen! Thanks for writing it.
Hits on a bunch of topics I've been thinking about lately: team dynamics, tightly controlling the scope of what you work on, the need for more communication, etc...

Definitely worth a read!

Love that I'm seeing these nerdy little CSS deep dives from Coyier on my Bluesky feed.
Feels like the old days with CSS Tricks!

Ai definitely opens up new business opportunities that were previously not doable.
The marketing you can do with a small TAM depends on a number of factors (who is the target market), but I could see newsletters, podcasts, trade organizations, etc being helpful
π― Eugene Healy:
βEveryoneβs becoming a shallow generalist because [AI] now exists to fake depth without ever achieving it. Now, "real status comes from the inverse: hyper-niche expertise... the obsessive, decades-long devotion to something specific."

these are all absolute bangers
so cute!
Almost always: Double-down on your strengths rather than blunt weakness.
Exception: When a weakness is directly blocking your goals or an obstacle to the most important next steps for the company.
Even then, just mute it, donβt try to βturn it into a strength.β
Welcome!
