What's wild is that Trump is going around deliberately & explicitly trying to bully countries into becoming dependent on US LNG.
Who on earth thinks becoming dependent on the US is smart right now?

Tune in at noon to @bernardchickey.bsky.social's Midday Hoon, to hear @connorsharp.bsky.social discuss the extraordinary cost of one of the cheapest of the Coalition's Roads of National Significanceβand the risks of govt rushing us into a contract.
Livestream link: open.substack.com/live-stream/...
Documents reveal Cabinet poised to commit $4bn to a RoNS that'll cost $22bn (or more) to complete.
βWhy is govt racing to lock this inβwhen it won't meet the βgoβ threshold until 2050?
βWhy does it require extra Crown $?
βWhatβs the wider opportunity cost?
@connorsharp.bsky.social has the scoop. π
Begging @barbedmonds.bsky.social to revisit the taxation policy and the diluted, weak sauce, everything is exempt CGT that Labour have proposed

New Zealand has more sunshine than Germany.
But only 1 in 35 homes here has rooftop solar.
Australia? 1 in 3.
Why? I tried to find out - despite some strange secrecy

Govt to pay up to $180m/year or $2.7b over 15 years to lease LNG re-gasification plant, paid for by $15-$30 'levy' per household per year. That $2.7b would build four Benmore Dams worth of electricity #nzpol open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...
If we canβt afford to have the expertise in our councils to operate critical infrastructure, how can we pay someone else to do it?

A screenshot from Bernard Hickey's "the Kaka" newsletter that reads "It's also choosing to pay for the LNG terminal through a type of hire-purchase 'lease' agreement that increases the $1 billion up-front cost to $2.7 billion over the 15-year life of the facility, even though it may never be used if there is no dry year." https://thekaka.substack.com/p/why-not-spend-27b-on-solar-and-batteries
So these dipshits won't fund a *pair* of ferry terminals that'd get used several times a day, but will fund an LNG terminal that *might* get used once in a blue moon?
One terminal, for the same price as two, and with zero (0) ferries?
After the deadly climate change-amplified weather recently, the Luxon Govt claimed it is taking action on climate change.
But their actions actually make climate change worse by increasing emissions.
Here is the evidenceπ
Left, The Post: "Cash for storm-hit regions as PM stands by scrapping $6b resilience fund Questions linger over why the $6 billion resilience fund set up by Labour after Cyclone Gabrielle was canned by Christopher Luxon's Government even as his Cabinet is set to consider immediate funding to support the regions battered by last week's storm. Henry Cooke" Right, NZ Herald: "Watch: Govt allocates $1.2m to help communities affected by deadly weather disaster"
Luxon's govt cut funding for extreme-weather resilience in 2024, and so shouldn't be allowed to now crow about any money they dedicate without it being mentioned.
The Post does it right.
