Those who attended the Insight Evening were eligible to apply for 1 of 5 Internship places. The Internship took place last week, with sessions from Gemma McNeil-Walsh, Jonathan Barnes KC, Katya Pereira, Antony Braeger, Zach Birse, Lily Walker-Parr, Justin Rushbrooke KC, Hope Williams & Samuel Rowe.
Thank you to Jane Phillips, Kate Wilson, Hope Williams, Aidan Eardley KC, Felicity McMahon, Jonathan Barnes KC and Katya Pereira for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience during the session.
The Insight Evening took place virtually over two hours in January. It enabled over 100 students attending non-fee paying schools across England and Wales to learn more about media law.
Thank you to 5RB Chambers for partnering with BVL on an Insight Evening and Internship for the fourth year in a row. The whole programme gives our students a brilliant insight into the legal profession and 5RB's media law expertise.

Depending on who you are, a trip to the Supreme Court might sound like a small thing. But for young people who are wondering whether law is accessible to them, opening the door of somewhere like the Supreme Court can make all the difference.
So, thank you LSLA!
We're a small charity, so events like this and the money raised makes a big difference to the work we can do. By way of example, this will enable us to pay for travel and accommodation for more students to come to London for our work experience placements and our in person projects.
Two great results on Wednesday evening:
1. Team BVL didn't come last in the London Solicitors Litigation Association's charity quiz.
2. The quiz raised important funds for BVL and will help to improve social mobility in the legal profession.
Thank you, David Cosway and ICLR for the lovely write up of BVL's event in Portcullis House last week

Finally a request to anyone who has read this far - the MLC received over 200 applications this year. Another of BVLβs projects recently received over 500. We cannot keep up with the demand. So if you/someone you know can help in any way (sponsorship/resources), pls get in touch - team@bvl.org.uk.
Thank you to our incredible volunteer Group Leaders, Coordinators and Board who keep the project running and to the Guest Speakers who shared their expertise with our students throughout the project (named in full below).
Thank you to @iclr.bsky.social - the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for England and Wales ("ICLR"β), who have for the third year in row published our students' reports which can now be accessed on our website here: www.bvl.org.uk/publications
Thank you to Stephanie Hack, the Joint CEO of the Law Commission of England and Wales (pictured) for your words to the students during the event. We hope they take you up on your invitation for them to join you at the Law Commission one day!
Thank you to Catherine Atkinson MP (pictured) for your inspiring words at the opening of the event and for hosting us once again at Portcullis House. The opportunity to speak in Westminster is an incredible moment for our students, so thank you for making that possible.
It was a fantastic evening, with exceptional presentations from all of the students. Their hard work over the past four months paid off and their success is yet more evidence that background should not be a barrier to entering the legal profession.
This year the students presented proposals on the law surrounding Corporate Offending, Cosmetic Surgery, Children & Social Media & Surrogacy.
The MLC is our flagship project, which enables c.80 students from across England and Wales to mirror the work of the Law Commission, by devising reform proposals on different areas of law.
At 16 or 17 years old could you have presented in Parliament in front of 150 + people? Well on Tuesday thatβs exactly what BVLβs students (all from non-fee paying schools) did at the launch of the 13th Model Law Commission report.
