Lucy I surveyed her small body clinging to life, and realized in that horrible moment that I had run out of ideas to beat back death.

My latest post, hope you enjoy!

A Purpose-Sized Hole One of the things that’s beautiful about life as a pediatrician, and in public health for that matter, is that it’s never challenging to find your purpose.

Meal Type, Not Sequence, Affects Duration, Eating Behavior The type of meal an individual eats, not the order in which food is eaten, affects meal duration, chewing behavior, and tempo, and may impact obesity.

Fast food = faster meals, fewer chews. Beef bento boxes = better bite-based behavior

Interesting study out of Japan looking at meal type, along with other factors for effects on meal duration and bite rates.

3 questions I ask of people I suspect are playing fast and loose with a scientific study to support a dogma, even if I have yet to read it. 1) Can you clarify the study design and population? 2) What do the authors list as its main limitations? and 3) Is it peer reviewed?
