A Battle with My Blood When I was diagnosed with leukemia, my first thought was that this couldn’t be happening to me, to my family.

Oh, my. This is a very, very sad, but wonderfully written essay about a young Kennedy family member dying of Leukemia. That family has seen too much trauma.

October 26, 2025 Economist Paul Krugman probably didn’t have the Erie Canal in mind today when he wrote about the rise of renewable energy, but he could have.

Wow, we (and a sane government) can do really good things for all of us, if we wish. Ms. Richardson describes the rationale and success of the Erie Canal. Well worth the read. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

Wasn't there something in our history about taxation without representation? :-)

When Dementia Steals the Imagination of a Children’s Book Writer

I have to say that Robert Munsch is my *favorite* author. I read his stories to my kids a LOT. Amazing story about this life in the NY Times. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/14/m...

DOEresponseSite On July 29, 2025, the Department of Energy (DOE) published a report from its Climate Working Group (CWG). This report features prominently in the EPA's reconsideration of its 2009 Endangerment Finding...

Wow, a 459 page review of an article. And they turned it around in less than 30 days. I'm in awe of the folks that wrote this review of the latest DoE climate report!!! Very detailed criticisms, and specific instructions. sites.google.com/tamu.edu/doe...

Does the de minimis tariff apply to gifts? Or used items? Or things you already own? (I'm also thinking about the people who bought cars in Europe, drove them for a while, then imported them.)

The cognitively controlled hearing aid in overview. Speech is picked up by an ad hoc array of microphones and processed to produce clean speech streams, one per speaker.

Real-time audio attention decoding. We track eyes for visual attention, but there is no physical manifestation of the brain’s auditory interest. We decode EEG signals to see whether the brain is paying more attention to speaker 1 or speaker 2. Imagine aids that help you hear what you want.

The richest man in the world is taking pleasure in putting the world's poorest babies into a wood chipper. This is the essence of evil. Why isn't all of Congress screaming bloody murder?!??!?

I really like this statement from our friends up north. So true and now sad!
β€œAs President John F. Kennedy said many years ago,” Trudeau began, β€œgeography has made us neighbours. History has made us friends, economics has made us partners and necessity has made us allies.”

Watch Duty - Wildfire Maps & Alerts Real-time information about wildfire and firefighting efforts nearby

Last night I was helping a friend keep track of the fire as he was stuck in traffic trying to evacuate. Watch Duty was amazing, even more so when I realized that the main reporter was monitoring the event *and* the radio traffic from NZ! The Internet can be pretty amazing. app.watchduty.org/i/40469
