Great news! The evidence is clear, build it and they will come! The large majority of people in Ireland want increased investment in cycling infrastructure, even when that results in less road space for cars. πŸ’―πŸ‘

Report finds active travel takes 23,000 cars off Galway roads every day | GalwayBayFM The latest national transport authority Index shows walking, wheeling and cycling takes up to 23,000 cars off Galway roads every day.

www.galwaybayfm.ie/galway-bay-f...

82% πŸ‘€πŸ‘€ "Meanwhile support for segregated cycle lanes is strongest in Waterford at 86 per cent, followed by Galway at 82 per cent, Cork at 73 per cent and Limerick at 69 per cent."

How about support for modal filters? Little ingredients that make a cycling network

Build it and they will come and they'll want more. Safe, segregated cycling and pedestrian infrastructure improves safety and experience for all road users.

87% also said they wanted enforcement on illegal footpath parking: something that endangers pedestrians, removes accessibility & sightlines.

Why do surveys show strong public support for cycle paths, but Facebookers call it β€œfakeΒ news”? -- "Leadership means pushing past the noise β€” and over the Hill of Hysteria," says a leading mobility academic. The National Transport Authority has just published the latest findings of its Walking and Cycling Index for 2025 research which led The Irish Times to report that "the vast majority of residents across the State’s five main cities want increased investment in cycling infrastructure, even when that results in less road space for cars." That and other news reports have led many on social media to cry foul!

Absolutely devastating news in Navan on Saturday. All at Navan Cycling Initiative are heartbroken at this tragic and needless loss of life.

This should not be happening on our roads, yet shockingly we are seeing constant delays in measures to improve safety on our roads.

May she rest in peace.

High-vis for cycling, high-vis for walking to parties, high-vis for children playing… Where do people think thisΒ stops? Comment & Analysis: Yesterday, it was the bus drivers' union's turn to call for mandatory high-vis for cyclists. But I just have to ask: Where do people think this stops? The data doesn't align with much of what some people are talking about. A catch-up for anybody not following: After a backlash, the Government backtracked on the idea of making helmets and high-vis a requirement for all cyclists, but they still seem to be considering such regulations for pedal-assisted bicycles, which are currently treated as bicycles under Irish and EU law.

A lovely local story from Ennis.

Peloton na PΓ‘istΓ is a small cycle bus to Gaelscoil MhΓchΓl CΓosΓ³g on a busy 2.3km route. So far, it’s helped avoid 1,600km of car travel, showing you don’t need perfect conditions to get going.

And more to come with the Tulla Road Active Travel Scheme underway! 🚴

Group welcomes more accessible and better wearing greenwayΒ surface A new surface on the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway will make it more accessible to a range of users with wheels, local campaigners have said. Sealed hard-top surfaces are more accessible because they are easier for bicycles and wheelchairs to navigate, less damage to the paths from heavy rainfall, and the grit in fine gravel surfaces can cause damage to these and other devices.

Submission: Dunboyne to Clonee Active Travel Links A key part of our role is to engage with the public consultation process, where local authorities consult with residents on future plans. Here's our submission regarding the proposed active travel links in Dunboyne and C

And the notion that some of these Councillors can still say they β€œsupport active travel” - yet vote against this scheme - is just mind-boggling. This is a high-quality walking scheme which is urgently needed in growing towns like Ratoath & Clonee, & rejecting it is setting these towns back years.

And yes, adding an unrealistic amendment which contradicts DMURs is as good as voting against it. Widening the road is not an option at Station Road, so the only option is to reduce the main carriageway (this section also contains multiple proposed shared surfaces due to the narrow constraints).

Dunboyne and Clonee cycle and path scheme goes ahead but only if roads are made wider | Meath Chronicle Ratoath Municipal District councillors were separated by a single vote in passing the Dunboyne and Clonee Cycle and Path Scheme - but added an amendment stating the roads should be at least 6.5 metre...

Really disappointing stuff here from Ratoath Councillors. The large majority of people who made submissions for the Dunboyne and Clonee scheme were in favour, and wanted safer streets for all, yet these Councillors voted against the will of the people.

Helmets and hi-vis clothing to be made mandatory for e-bikes and e-scooter users Cabinet will sign off on plans to explicitly ban the use of scramblers on roads this morning.

Reducing - and enforcing - speed limits for ALL vehicles to 30km/hr in urban areas & cameras to detect cars breaking traffic lights would save scores of lives annually, but it might annoy some motorists so instead we get this performative BS from gov’t.
