Seeing people casually use “degenerate” on here feels a little like reading “Lebensraum” on an interpretive panel describing a kind of bird in a German park. Like I know this isn’t actually Nazi shit but surely you could find another word?

Just saw speculation that US gas prices could go up to $5.50 / gallon and even that is so fucking cheap. It’s no wonder cars have turned almost every place in that country into a miserable shithole.
We need to be keeping track of everything every one of these hateful little shits is posting now because one day there will be consequences again for this kind of violent extremism. For the rest of their lives every potential employer, partner, etc. needs to know that this is who they are.
this is what conservative students on university campuses really want: the freedom to say Nazi slogans, the n-word and call for violently killing Black people and more, without consequences of any kind. No protest from fellow students, faculty or admin. Utter impunity to be hateful little prats
When I first moved to Berlin I was impressed by how well-trained all the dogs I met were, but now I have my own dog here, and she’s better behaved than her German friends, so I think the takeaway is just that Americans tend to be really bad at stuff.
In a coffee shop where an American tech bro has been loudly taking video calls and then left without bussing his table and like JFC man, it’s not the week for that
Every trans person in America is more courageous than its soldiers. Every person of colour who is forced to navigate life in a country that treats them with open hostility is more courageous. Everyone in Minneapolis and beyond, refusing to allow armed goons to destroy their communities, is braver.
Just ID’d a Nazi (the literal 14 words kind) who lives in Stockholm and works for Swedbank (he’s been there for years and actively represents them on LinkedIn). He’s just going on the pile for now, but if any local folks want to take a shot at getting him fired, let me know.
I’d ignored the guy because I try to avoid judging people just because they’re into weird shit I don’t like (TikTok, videos in general), but yeah, he seems pretty bad.
There are a lot of Christians on his site who seem to believe that Jesus spoke the 14 words, which is probably pretty close to what he has in mind.
Somehow I missed that this motherfucker posted “I agree with the teachings of Jesus” last Tuesday? I think we may be down to double digits for the “Christ is King” counter.
I should have been clearer: pets get an exception
Another win for one of my most reliable rules of thumb: never trust anyone who has ever posted a video.
Was just reminded that “TizzyEnt” exists and noticed that his most recent post on here is misinformation about Enrique Tarrio being a member of ICE. Which is not surprising, but it’s nice to have a solid reason to block him after years of just finding him annoying and grifty.
Wikipedia is banning Archive Today links because of new reporting about how the operators are manipulating snapshots, and every big post about it here has replies like “oh I thought the Internet Archive was good” or “you need to clarify that this isn’t the Internet Archive”.
Lots of talk on here about how people are confusing the Internet Archive (mostly great!) with Archive Today (bad in many ways), and I don’t get it. Just because they both have “Archive” in the name? Is this one of those fucked up American reading pedagogy things?
His email is easy to find, and he replied to me within a couple of hours, so you could try asking him. My best guess is that he’s retired and unhinged Bluesky posting is his whole life (after he got kicked off of Facebook last year), but it’d be fun to know if something more interesting is going on.
Something to think about the next time you click a Substack link here: X recently suspended a community that claimed (accurately, AFAICT) to be “the largest National Socialist community on Twitter”, and the organizer’s response was “we’re going to focus on TG and Substack”.
This is why you shouldn’t publish speculative identifications, even if you hedge appropriately, and if even if everyone involved is a terrible person. Every time it gets repeated a layer of your hedging is stripped off, and pretty soon people who should know better are doing this shit.
Subskeeting here but saying that the End Wokeness X account is “allegedly” run by Jack Posobiec is still misinformation. The only person seriously alleging this is an OSINT influencer whose “evidence” is based on several misunderstandings.
We learned all the wrong lessons from the success of “look at these dipshits talking about slurp juices” as an approach to the problem of NFTs.
I wouldn’t say I like this article or agree with all of it (the title is bad and the framing in general isn’t much better), but he’s not wrong about how irresponsible “ha ha spicy autocomplete” is as a response to generative AI.
Bluesky in a nutshell.
Some context: BLS released its jobs numbers today, which were better than expected, and resistance libs would rather stay mad/conspiratorial than listen to actual on-the-ground experts that the data is still reliable.
(Many of the later tweets are still up, and the whole thing is on Archive Today).
She even got the first tweet in the thread taken down (which is really rare, usually the IA only excludes the entire URL prefix for the screen name, and usually only at the request of the account owner):
I don’t mean to dismiss your point. The hype clearly is very similar in many ways, but if what you take away from that is “the tech must be bullshit too”, you’re not in a position to take the problem seriously.
yeah. if palantir was putting 10 billion into metaverse operations I'd laugh and be glad the enemy was wasting money. 10 billion into AI-driven surveillance? Less funny.
I think it’s clear that generative AI is on balance much worse for the world than either of those things, but it doesn’t help anything to pretend that it’s the same kind of nonsense.
The metaverse and NFTs may have disappeared basically without a trace, but one thing they’ve given us is a whole genre of lazy and incompetent AI criticism.
