Donald Trump is gaslighting us and distracting us from his many failures. This is how authoritarians use war.
Congress must vote immediately to stop this illegal war with Iran.
My prayers are with Iranian civilians (including the courageous protestors who took to the streets) and their families here, with U.S. servicemembers and their families, with the people of Israel and Saudi Arabia and the rapidly widening field of Trumpβs reckless war.
Diplomacy was the best path to address concerns, shared by many of our allies, about Iranβs nuclear program, regional aggression, and repression of its own people. Trump has now squandered that chance.
If the U.S. standard for acceptable war becomes the fury of a madman with enough military power, the world will be far more unstable. We wonβt only be less safe β weβll be less free, and less flourishing.
The reasons the Trump regime is giving are blatant lies. A DIA report last year concluded that Iran does not have ballistic missiles capable of hitting the U.S. There is no evidence it has made active efforts to resume building nuclear weapons.
Congress must immediately vote on Rep. Khanna and Massieβs War Powers Resolution to stop this war. They must act to restrain this mad, imperial President.
