Yep, native popover as a full viewport overlay so it feels dedicated without leaving the page, nothing fancy :)
The metadata under the hero and logo feels dense, eg: can't find the episode name right away.
I'd play with line height, paragraph spacing and max width in the copy.

+1 on moving away from embedded player, much better / pro feel IMHO
Some quick thoughts:
- Open the player using full view modal (view transition?)
- Add negative space in text area? too crowded
- Hero image is huge on large screens, had to look around for anything to interact with
