... Memeing with strangers is what MAGFest is all about. *colossus roar*
Thanks to all the @magfest.org staff and volunteers for another fantastic MAG!
A group of people arrayed in black robes and wearing blocky MInecraft heads.
A pin saying "The Village" and "MAGFest 20x6" next to a MAGFest badge with a "Majima Everywhere" ribbon attached.
Probably the best and, perhaps, most unique thing about MAGFest is the community-oriented, participatory culture. It wouldn't be MAG if you didn't encounter things like this group of Minecraft cultists, whom I learned to be The Village, only by receiving a pin after bowing to them.
The four saxophonists of Project Fusion on stage.
Triforce Quartet on the main stage at MAGFest with the Triforce Quartet logo showing behind the musicians.
Close to Good performing at the Xpansion Stage at MAGFest.
So much good music at MAG. I expected the addition of Expedition 33's OST to the VGM canon. I did not expect a beautifully arranged saxophone-only rendition of the long, multipart FF6 boss music. @projectfusionsq.bsky.social
Group of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cosplayers at the relevant MAGFest 2026 photoshoot.
More Expedition 33 cosplayers at the MAGFest 2026 photoshoot.
Posing with a cosplayer dressed as Esquie from Expedition 33.
I expected to see a lot of Expedition 33, and I was not disappointed. Baguettes were out in full force. On the baguette photoshoot day, I think in every mass of people there were at least one or two donning the baguette. I also met an amazing Esquie!
Full group of Yakuza/Like a Dragon cosplayers at the MAGFest 2026 photoshoot, posing in the Gaylord atrium.
Four Ichiban Kasuga cosplayers on their knees, with hands on the ground, to offer the highest level of Japanese apologies.
Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth cosplayers posing at the MAGFest 2026 Yakuza photoshoot.
Cosplayer dressed as "Joryu" from Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, holding a sign that says, "I am NOT Kiryu Kazuma."
The Yakuza/RGG photoshoot was a blast. Shout out to this little community of cosplayers at MAG, and... apologies to the shareholders of Ichiban Confections.
Special thanks to @annir.bsky.social for picture-taking!
Posing with SungWon Cho, aka ProZD, who is holding a wiffle ball bat behind his back and flashing a peace sign.
I had the pleasure of meeting @prozdishere.bsky.social who was nothing but kind, professional, and generous with his time. I thanked him for very officially confirming with Hironobu Sakaguchi that FF9 is the best FF.
Hope you enjoyed the rest of your first MAGFest, and hope you'll be back!
An ironically poorly designed sign stating, "welcome to Magfest music and gaming festival 2026," typeset in Comic Sans, with "Lorem ipsum" floating in the background.
There are a lot of terrible things happening right now, but MAGFest is always a bright spot, a celebration of nerddom against the darkness. Here are a few of my highlights this time.
Were you the one who handed me the Majima Everywhere ribbon? If so, thank you again!
Thanks for organizing this once again! Maybe by next year I'll finally be able to memorize all the lyrics to Baka Mitai...
Matthew 15:29-31: And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them after verifying their citizenship status.

Traditional institutions using anime to connect to younger generations may represent a “conquest of cute”, much like Thomas Frank’s “conquest of cool” in advertising in the 1960s, argues @brandonazheng. #anime #Luce #umamusume #USMC @bakerinstitute www.bakerinstitute.org/research/con...
A family outside their home. Their deck is loaded with guns.
A man in his living room. His living room is full of guns. There's also a big safe labeled "Liberty."
A man outside his home. The walkway into his home is full of guns.
A woman outside her garage. The front of her home is full of guns, some laid out in a star formation.
IMO many Americans don't even buy guns for personal protection or to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. They simply have a shopping addiction

I deleted several posts about a Times story because they violated Times social media standards.

Three million Americans marched today. Here’s why we wrote about one American who didn’t.
i miss the early internet. people were like “you gotta see this dude. this cat sure is long.” and they were right. it was really long. it never shoulda gotten any more complicated than that.
The Supreme Court hears a big case TODAY that could affect billions in funding for schools and libraries. To learn more about what's at stake, join me live at 9:45 am ET: twitch.tv/BrainFungi
I'll explain the case, then we'll listen to arguments in real time. Then, @bergmayer.net joins to discuss.
I think the amazing thing in the US is that people forget that law is willed into being by the people as they comply with it on a daily basis. It does not exist on its own. It is not like the laws of physics. It is a merely human thing
A story I did of memories of secretly listening to Voice of America in mainland China… a massive legacy.
www.npr.org/2025/03/18/n...
Had strong sense at least the timing of Trump's illegal shuttering of Voice of America was triggered by his annoyance at a question from a VOA journo. Source flags to me that the EO was so hastily put together they literally forgot to complete the last sentence. www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/...
It seems I've also been placed on leave, just like the rest of my VOA colleagues.
Truth is, I can't know for sure, because when I woke up this morning in Seoul, I'd already been locked out of all VOA-related systems and accounts.
