I was in bed, and my wife started to wake up next to me as the sun was slowly spilling into the room. Her eyes opened, and she smiled at me. I turned my phone and showed her this little goofball, and her whole face lit up, and she said, "I love him!"

The financial risk is real! Be nice to the creators behind the table and even if you don’t got the $$ to spare, a kind word goes a long way.
It's so good! This is the kinda piece I would have pulled out of a Dragon magazine and put up on my wall. Iconic down to the hint of a ghost and those candles.
And Pam's alt cover came up a bunch last night because I'm seriously thinking it would make a rad tattoo to go with my War Duke.

It was doubly destabilizing for me because they were "friends."
Then they tried to get me to pay them $4k+ for my share of my own IP back. The artist finally let me know they'd never been paid for any of the work, either, and the publisher backed down and signed over my IP, but I lost years of work
It's not just big pubs. I wrote something like 8+ projects for an indie little pub, and nary saw a cent.
They sold out of two of my books, made X3 on a few of the Kickstarters, and then, when I asked about money, they decided they "liked the idea of the landscape without me in it."
Broke my heart
No one cares that their dad invited Toaster Strudel. I'm still not shopping there.

I know players on the teams that are making these books. They love this hobby as much as I do. I trust they want us all to have something we can enjoy.
