I'm done! I've learnt the whole of The Phantom Pain! Have strung a few different sections together, but Thursday will be my first full run attempt. It's a cool run and routing has been ironed out so well by the community over the years. Huge thanks to @metalglennsolid.bsky.social for his tutorial!

There is no fucking way you're gonna be playing MGS4 at full speed on a Switch 1. In fact I'm willing to bet on it:

If MGS4 runs smoothly on Switch 1 in handheld mode, I will purchase it and speedrun it on Switch. I'm going to learn it with the PC version anyway, but I'll also do Switch.

I do think it's a deliberate choice and not an error, even if it's not canonically correct. I think there's a good argument that it is to provide an image of both Snakes at the same time. The definitive edtion is Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain, so two different characters across the two games.

Venom Snake dressed as Raiden in his cyborg gear from Revengeance. Whilst this is a complete model swap to Raiden's model, the player is still treated as Venom Snake. This is awarded to the player for obtaining an S-Rank in all standard story missions.

Some could argue that you can unlock the Ground Zeroes sneaking suit for Venom to wear in Phantom Pain, which does still have the MSF logo. However, this is a special unlock for transferring GZ data to TPP. If this reason holds up, it's canonical that Venom was also a futuristic cyborg ninja.

Whilst Venom was a high ranking member of MSF, this was before his transformation into Big Boss' doppleganger. After his surgery and rescue in Cyprus, his uniform would reflect that of Diamond Dogs, the PMC you run in Phantom Pain. Canonically, there is no reason for Venom to wear an MSF uniform.

I've never noticed it before, but there's an error with MGSV's Definitive Edition artwork - sort of. The dominant figure at the back is 100% Venom Snake - he has Venom's horn and facial scars, it's not Naked Snake. However, the skull insignia on his arm is for Militaires Sans Frontieres (MSF).

My first MGS3 All Kerotans submission on the speedrun.com leaderboards. Date submitted was 8th December 2022.

Oh wait, no, found the culprit of not learning any new Metal Gears. I finished Survive and then moved on to a new category that would completely and utterly consume me for three years:

Ignoring new categories, and ignoring MGSΔ because it was MGS3 but a bit different, I haven't learnt a brand new Metal Gear speedrun since Nov 2022. That was Survive, so maybe that had something to do with it. Well, tonight I break that streak. It's time to teach an old Diamond Dog some new tricks.

It's a new world record! With the removal of the game swap time, the new Metal Gear Solid Trilogy world record is 2:44:39! Over five minutes faster than my old PB, though some of that is down to faster versions of MGS1 and MGS3 now being available. But it's a win!
