VICTORY: A court has ordered the City of Los Angeles to halt plans to dramatically expand the seizure and destruction of RVs, agreeing with community advocates that the City lacked authority to implement the policy.
On February 9, L.A. County re-opened applications for financial assistance due to recent emergencies, including the 2025 Wildfires. The assistance can be used for unpaid rent to avoid eviction, or other emergency expenses.

The U.S. Dept. of Education announced a temporary pause on wage garnishment, tax refund seizures, and other collections for 10 million Americans in student loan default. In today’s NYT, LAFLA attorney Robyn Smith explains how borrowers can check their status, protect income, and get out of default.
One-third of UC undergraduates qualify for food stamps. But the majority don’t receive them – putting their education and stability at risk. Our partnership with UCLA Basic Needs helps students on campus fight insecurity through legal advice on applying for CalFresh, appealing decisions, and more.
