world-altering decisions are being made by a cabal of gambling addicts hell bent on self enrichment no matter the cost to humanity, we should look into that.
Finally got over myself and set a domain up. Not the most inspired one, but after spending a year in analysis paralysis, I'll take the win.
Bring back spleen and ennui, at least it gave us room to reflect.
UTM works nicely and is free
Tamer Nahed ππ΅πΈ @Tamer_Alnoaizy BlueSky is one of the worst platforms I have ever dealt with. Within seconds of creating a second account, after my first one was shut down just two days after it was created, my account was closed again. This happened despite the fact that I hadnβt posted anything or followed anyone. I was only in the process of adding a profile photo, yet I received an email claiming that my account was βspamβ and that it was βcausing harm.β What kind of logic is this? The painful truth is that the account was shut down the moment it became clear it was created from inside Gaza. It seems we are no longer allowed to write or speak about what is happening to us here. They are not afraid of content itself, but of our voices and the reality we carry with us. Millions are spent to silence these voices and to erase the truth. I am exhausted by this platform and by how our photos and videos, which document real suffering, are treated as βviolations of community standards,β as if pain itself has become a crime. What is happening is not simple moderation or policy enforcement. It is an attempt to erase our existence and bury the truth. And honestly, this is shameful and unbearably painful. [the original poster has included two screenshots showing the email from bluesky admin informing him that his account has been taken down for being 'spammy, inauthentic or disruptive to users'. it's the standard boilerplate you get when they take moderation action.] 2:45 PM Β· Feb 10, 2026 https://twitter.com/Tamer_Alnoaizy/status/2021234178461704409
palestinian journalist posting on twitter that his bluesky account was immediately taken down purely because he was in gaza. all palestinian accounts are assumed to be spam.
When employers want to tie your performance to your AI usage, you use AI, whether you actually use the output or not. It's a pretty common story around me.
I've been slowly writing mine but @strange.website's personal website has polluted my mind and everything I come up with feels a little too close for comfort π
fwiw I don't think it is possible to build genAI in such a way that it benefits workers rather than capital because it is fundamentally based on non consensual extraction of labour to get going. what would it actually mean for the workers to own the means of production here
Because the lessons of the Holocaust is not that we "shouldn't do a Holocaust", it's that we should oppose the conditions that made the cruelty of the Holocaust possible at all: authoritarianism, laws of the strongest, scapegoating and oppression of minorities, normalizing apartheid & genocide, etc.
This book was foundational for me all the way back then, I cannot recommend this enough.
It is still wild to me that people can keep a straight face while calling AI value-neutral when plenty of the harms have been documented. It's not really a matter of opinions at this point.
Ah yes, tone policing and ignoring the argument is always the way to win an argument.
Agreed, it's the "rules for thee but not for me" that is making it unethical in my mind. Copyright is not an amazing way to deal with our current world, but why should the right to ignore it be based on how many billions you spend?
It's been a heck of a year!
Gleam v1.14.0 is out now! Merry Christmas everyone! π
gleam.run/news/the-hap...
I used to write Rust pre-1.0, and stopped before the first edition release. I still have trouble reading "modern" rust, being an early bird hasn't helped me much :(
Embrace, extend... What's after that?
Is Gleam production ready? Yes. Can you write games in Gleam? Yes.
Can you buy any Gleam games on Steam? YES! π
Can we just admit that the Canadian liberals are conservatives in red at this point?
Universal control is really getting super buggy in more recent versions, making mouse cursors disappear in the ether. Am I the only one?
You cut a release earlier than the chrome team, voilΓ .
How that sort of thing is tolerated in any community is mind-boggling to me. That guy is absolutely radioactive. I was considering a switch to NixOS on the Bazzite computer, but now I know what I'm doing over the Christmas break.
Please update right now, no ifs or buts
Mmhmm, it's an alpha after all! It's good to hear there are plans to integrate these down the line, that's not what I inferred from a quick glance at issues!
Hmmm, oxfmt might not quite be there for me. It's in alpha so I can't be too hard on it, but some of it is perf-related. Coming from biome, the json perf feels really underwhelming (Yes, I know, it's handed off to prettier)
jujutsu support should be nice and easy right? No? Oh well π
I'm seeing more and more people jump ship, using either codeberg or @tangled.org (me included). Not a significant amount, but the cracks are starting to show...
I know, I know: dealing with SQL is hard and ORMs seem like a great choice to avoid dealing with it. But sticking to "plain old SQL" can actually have a great developer experience! Here's why you might not need an ORM after all
