Sharpton: "We're still here! We've come this far by faith. It was against the law to read and write! It was against the law to marry, but we've come this far by faith. I don't care what they do in Washington, I care what we do in the community. We've beat people bigger than Trump!"
Sharpton: "The problem is not Trump. The problem is us. What happened to us?"
Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"

An unarmed Iranian ship joined a naval exercise with India and the US.
At the last minute the US withdrew and torpedoed it. Survivors were left to drown while others recovered the bodies.
Critics say that broke basic norms of war β and much of the US media has largely looked the other way.
Only last year, Christopher Harborne donated Β£9m to Reform UK.
Now heβs given them another Β£3m.

He also helped kill the reform of the Prayerbook on the grounds that the proposed changes were too catholic, which is why the Church of England was (legally speaking - approaches varied) stuck with 1662 until the mid sixties, liturgy fans βοΈβοΈ
There's barely a one of us (mixed families) without heaps of trauma and vast expense. Theresa May (even Michael Gove) got some mitigation in place: but tax, social security, pension and health co-ordination wholly inadequate *over people's lifetimes*.
Hereβs how we got here (and this is just todayβs example):
- In 2015-2016 Trump+supporters in the US and Brexiters in the UK experimented with looking right down the camera at the public and knowingly lying. Not fibs, not spin, not errors of fact, but deliberate, premeditated, calculated lies.

I actually don't have words as to how angry I am.
Wonder what happened in these countries that people on student visas in the UK found themselves needing to apply for asylum instead of going home post 2021.
UK Labour are heartless bastards & apparently have bo idea whats happening in the world.
Private Eye cover with photos of Trump in his βwar roomβ suggesting the Iranian offensive was to distract from the Epstein files

If I was @zackpolanski.bsky.social, I would be pointing out to the BBC that whatever model they use to justify giving Farage & his boot-lickers season tickets for every BBC show under the sun must surely now treat Green Party politicians in exactly the same way. Might even be one for the lawyers...
comic by political cartoonist Gary Varvel depicting a man hearing about Greece sending ships to defend Cyprus from the Persians while turning his calendar and discovering the year is 499 BCE.
FEDSPEAK: β.. bonds are trading βSkunkflation,β a sudden shock in energy prices that lasts long enough to reignite inflation, Jamie Dimon's metaphor in which a foul odor ruins the party.β
Excellent episode as so often with this podcast. @snellarthur.bsky.social
An important article - in an era of asymmetric warfare and dramatic power imbalances on the world stage, Western democratic leaders, so often in public, will likely come to regret the degradation of the norm against Head of State/Govt assassination by other states much more than autocrats will...
Strategically itβs incredibly clever the EU is eroding the key levers of the green transition.
As a net oil and gas importer being susceptible to repeated geopolitical supply and terms of trade shocks is just such a great place to be.
I do struggle to understand Shabana Mahmood: if this was what she came into politics to do, why was it the Labour Party that attracted her? Throughout most of the last 20 years, the Conservatives would've been a much more obvious fit.
If it's not, why's she doing it so zealously?
βLabour must stop channelling Reform and unite with progressives. Thatβs the lesson from Gorton and Dentonβ

I donβt even know anymore. War, the senseless murder of civilians, pedophiles in power, just a whole lot of fuckshit.

The real threat to democracy doesn't come from 'family voting'. It comes from the losing side refusing go accept they've lost
Very niche, but if anyone is interested in mudlarking, I have a ticket for the Secrets of the Thames exhibition for 2.15pm today
I can sadly no longer go, but the ticket is non-refundable. DM if interested! (will give it to you for free!)
The timing of the initial strikes is unusual.
Often you see these types of operations launched in the pre-dawn hours at the target site partly to limit civilian casualties.
This operation began at the beginning of a work and school day, with millions of adult civilians and children in harms way.
Trump had no choice but to act. The Iranians were just weeks away from obtaining the missing Epstein files.
Says something when even the news summaries have the potential to disturb. I listen to Radio 3 with caution.. wandering away at news point...
