He told us that "we need to flip the narrative and instead of trying to make biology fit into the paradigm of the physics experiment, which is ultimately about super cold atoms in isolation, we need to recognize that biology is already set up as the perfect quantum detector by evolution."

Aswathy told us that her essay began with a number from a failed calculation... "I looked it up expecting nothing and found that independent biological systems - cortical columns, capillary networks, the developing embryo had been converging on it for millions of years."

"I was genuinely surprised and honoured. Competitions like this create space to think across disciplines and push beyond conventional scientific boundaries. Engaging with other submissions through the QSpace Forums was enjoyable."

Congrats to Rishab Ghosh, who received a Special Mention in our "How Quantum is Life?" essay contest for his essay "The Decoherence Engine: Reframing Biological Complexity as Quantum Information Processing." Rishab proposes that cells have evolved to use decoherence itself as a computational tool.
