I have read all these books and they are all very good books
Spoiler alert: The first 60 minutes are about the renewable energy technology, the last 30 minutes are about how we're being misled.
I'm Kat Abughazaleh and I approve this message.
Yasuke from Persona 5 sounds really mad π

Gunther Eagleman [tm] sounds like a Venture Bros. villain who lasted 10 seconds in an episode cold open before Brock threw him off a helicopter or something
One of the points I tried to make clear in having this conversation was: Iβm not a radical. I am a *boring middle-aged dad*, whoβs raised tens of millions of dollars in venture capital, and worked in tech for decades. I have not lost my mind, or become an extremist. THEY DID.
This was one of the most interesting, candid conversations Iβve had while reporting from the tech beat.
@anildash.com did NOT pull any punches diagnosing what is happening with the tech industry.
If you feel like tech shit is melting your brain lately, read this
Yes, except cassette tape π
Those engineers are dimwits. Good job.
Still getting up the gumption to get myself out to some writing groups, maybe take some creative writing classes at PCC. Until then, I think I might keep trying to post things I've managed to finish to my blog

A slinky cat stares back at the viewer out of the darkness, hunkered down atop a logo reading ADVENT25. Beneath, a red ribbon tied to its tail jingles a tiny yellow bell.
Mistigram: introducing ADVENT25, our third annual #ANSIart #AdventCalendar. Enclosed is an executable program, and every day this month up to Dec 25th it will display that new date's illustration and allow you to view the previous screens.

when someone tells me not to use em dashes because AI uses em dashes
FWIW, I have talked to non-tech folks using AI tools who *are* aware of the IP and artist issues. But it's handy / fun / enriching to them - and the negatives rank similarly to eating meat, driving a car, buying from amazon, flying on a plane, etc. It all feels bad but also worth it in the calculus
I mean, sure, I've in tech for much of my life too - going on 40 years since the first time I got paid for it. Of course folks don't pay attention to OS, search engines, or phone specs. Just like there's a dozen other fields in your life where the specifics are a blur. You still weigh options though
Like, people don't want what the AI boosters want, not exactly. But they don't want what I want - or what I think they *should* want. People want and care about entirely different things, much to my frequent surprise and dismay. And it's tough getting a handle on it sometimes.
This is the most frustrating thing being in this soup, these days. Turns out folks don't care nearly as much about privacy or the web or all the various things nerds like me think they should. Easy to point at the gap and say "no it's the children who are wrong" instead of trying to figure it out
Frankly, that's just as demeaning and solipsistic an attitude toward folks in general as the rich assholes have. Do you really think people in the world using this stuff don't have free will and motivations and judgements of their own, whereby they've decided that this stuff is appealing?
And I think that's wishful thinking. Hundreds of *millions* of people are using AI. And the vasty majority have NO IDEA how dangerous or harmful these platforms can be. It would be great if there were tools that they could use that might help reduce their risks. www.anildash.com/2025/11/14/w...
For reasons too complex to explain here, I wrote an Apple II program designed for Early Modern Age Catholics to determine if they're allowed to have sex with their wife, or if it'd be a sin.
Here's the video of it running.
