Those were for two different earthquakes. Critical alerts were issued for the first earthquake as the magnitude exceeded 4.5 and then another earthquake happened after that was 3.1. No alert was issued for the magnitude 3.1- it's fairly small so you got an after-the-fact notification for that one.

This system has delivered more than 170 real alerts since 2019 and this incident is both unprecedented and rare. Fortunately, there was no danger this morning, but this serves as a reminder that earthquake preparedness is essential.
Today at 8:06 AM, MyShake distributed an alert for a M5.9 event in Lyon County, NV. This was a false alert by the #ShakeAlert system and this is currently being investigated.

It warns app users from California to Washington. So far, it has alerted for 170 earthquakes and has been downloaded by more than 4 million users.
It uses the @ShakeAlert EEW system, which detects the earthquake and then estimates where and how strong the shaking will be. MyShake sends alerts to areas where strong shaking is expected.

Hi ari, earthquake alerts are critical emergency alerts such that they go through do-not-disturb/silent settings. Alerts will have audio telling you to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On". If you felt the earthquake and didn't get an alert, you might have been outside the alerting region/MMI 3 contour
