I kind of think of Australia as having consistently hot weather all year round rather than having ridiculous mid-seasons like we do, where you’re getting 15C during the day and then the ground freezes at night.

It won’t be a problem in six weeks time when the frosts are past, because then I can move plants outside and the ladybirds will move in and solve the issue. It has been a bad year for aphids in the UK this year though, and a lot of other growers are saying the same.

I am prolific at peppers, squash and cucumbers. I suck at tomatoes, can never get these going. Also had a go at growing mushrooms but that too seemed doomed to failure

I like long-term projects! Also I have no room to really work with, so patience will be a virtue until I get an allotment!

It's often said that when football managers get fired, it's because they lose the dressing room. Igor Tudor at Spurs is set to become the first manager in modern history to get fired without ever having the dressing room in the first place.

Side note, I’ll be using the poblanos to make this:

Oh goodness, I feel your pain. Not many of my citrus plants survived the house move in January, so I'll be starting another lot this spring, but I don't have to worry about grafting as I grow from seed. Whether they'll grow true is another matter, but at least I won't know for a decade.

And yes, I have an aphid problem. Don’t comment, send me bishy-barnabys

Pretty sure the leftmost one is a Poblano that took a wrong turn on the freeway (the A47). I suppose I can take some comfort in knowing the plant will be over two feet tall by June

Two clearly different chilli pepper plants in a window bearing two clearly different types of peppers. One is tall, one short. One is wide, the other narrow. One grows up, the other down. They are both labelled β€˜Hungarian Hot Wax’. The window bears a vague reflection of the idiot that grew them.

Apparently both of these chillis are Hungarian Hot Wax, according to my foolproof labelling system

Marsupials previously thought extinct for millennia discovered in New Guinea The chances of finding one mammal species thought to be lost was β€˜almost zero’ and finding two is β€˜unprecedented’, biologist Tim Flannery says

"Two charismatic marsupial species that had been thought extinct for 6,000 years are alive in rainforest in remote West Papua."

Oh yeah this is super cool as both the pygmy long-fingered possum and ring-tailed glider were previously only known from fossils 🀯πŸ§ͺπŸ€

The world could be so much more interesting. Like, do I want to spend four hours learning about constructive dismissal, or do I want to make my own bread, read a chapter from 'Butter', take a lazy walk down to the river and then come back and play around with my chilli pepper crossbreeding project

4 panels, the first is just the waves of the ocean and some big ol’ clouds. the next three are focused on each of the new pokemon starters. Browt a little chicken looking guy is sitting on a log in a forest on the edge of a beach. Pombon a fluffy fire dog is standing proudly on some rocks while waves crash against them and lastly gecqua, a water gecko snoozes on a rock in a swampy pond area.

Opinion | The Billionaires Have Gone Full Louis XV

"According to the…annual Harris Poll, for the 1st time, a majority of Americans believe billionaires are a threat to democracy. A remarkable 71% believe there should be a wealth tax. A majority believe there should be a cap on how much wealth a person can accumulate." www.nytimes.com/2025/12/14/o...

If I were a medium sized country/middle power without nuclear weapons, I would be having frank discussions with my defense minister and nuclear power industry about how long it would take to have an operational prototype.

As I said, don't expect things to get better in Iran when this is all said and done.

The US, like many declining imperial powers, has min-maxxed into fighting wars, but forgotten that the point of war is to achieve political effects.

Destruction only has the vibes of power, but no substance.

Trump is going to sour on this whole thing the instant gas prices in Kansas spike and then it'll be a week of hearing every maga mouthpiece talking about how awesome he is for bringing this to an end so quickly before the next self inflicted calamity

If you want to read voices of young artists in Iran, please support the comics anthology "Young in Iran" published with @comicsworkshop.bsky.social It's 264 pages, 6x9 inches, and was censored by Kickstarter. Take a look: www.sequentialartistsworkshop.org/saw-shop/p/y...

I know we all feel helpless, you wish it was the olden days when you could grab a sword and fight, but you are a warrior when you don’t buy from Amazon, don’t use AI, contact your representatives, vote, get rid of your lawn, go vegan (had to sneak that in), support local businesses. You have power!

The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

One of the weirder aspects of modern UK politics is "free market" think tankers who have never worked in the private sector lecturing businesses on how they're doing capitalism wrong

my friend outside NY asked me the other day why she hasn't heard about zohran much since he became mayor and my honest answer was that it's because i think he's just doing his job which is actually inherently pretty boring?
