Why do I have to pretend that I'm going to print something in order to save it as a PDF. Why do I have to engage in a little ruse.

twitter is BEGGING me to come back
@ionathanch Oct 17, 2011 I remember when I was celebrating my 2 000th Tweet a long time ago... Now I'm at 15
I got an archive of my tweets when I left so I went to check what the oldest tweet was. back in 2011 I did a great purge of old tweets but regardless this means that the account itself is literally at least 15 years old

A git flow diagram from Microsoft's docs as of Feb 18 2026: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/modules/introduction-to-github/3-components-of-github-flow#git-flow
An excerpt from Atlassian's git flow docs, with the text "Hotfix branches" and a git flow diagram. Screenshot taken Feb 18 2026 from here: https://www.atlassian.com/git/tutorials/comparing-workflows/gitflow-workflow#:~:text=finish%C2%A0%270.1.0%27-,Hotfix%20branches,-Maintenance%20or
I don't mean to pile on here, but it looks like the updated version of the diagram was heavily cribbed (if not outright ripped off) from Atlassian's docs without attribution
I actually have similar questions about a bunch of symbols that ultimately ended up in that Miscellaneous Technical Unicode block. When have you ever seen an EE textbook use β§ for "electrical intersection"? Which Euler's constant is Ζ?
There's still the unsolved mystery of where the symbol is *from*, since a type foundry creates the type if there's a demand for it. Who demanded it? And what actual documents that aren't typographical catalogues have used it to mean azimuth?
A theory I like is that the downward zigzag arrow represents the light ray as it enters a sextant, which you can use to measure an azimuth
This makes it extra annoying that the Noto font uses a wavy arrow, which ruins the symbolism
I wonder if they'll fix it if I complain. where's the Noto repo
Update: U+237C βΌ (angzarr) means "azimuth"
The Wikipedia article was updated about a year ago (not my discovery btw) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angzarr
I've finally gotten around to looking at the sources, and I've snipped some more catalogues onto a new blog post

did something happen to @pronouns.diy? the labeller seems to be gone
this is why it's pronounced yonchy btw. if I wanted people to say eye-onchy I would have written it as iΓΆnchy
this suggests that if opiΓΆid is pronounced oh-pee-oid then opioid is pronounced ope-yoid
