For this I found knex useful because the same client can run on SQLite out of the box, port itself to Postgres and then fall back to just JSON files, and the ORM means it’s the same code base
I fully agree with you and count myself an ORM hater but I have a specific use case: smaller-medium sized projects with shifting infra needs, for instance a digital humanities project that can/should be built locally on someone’s laptop, shared widely and needs to scale and then can shift to archive

On the flip side the kiddo came home with a library assignment to “ask a question and then research it, use at least three sources and validate them” and told us “I told [friend] this is probably the most important class we’ll take in school”
