Also, you can’t use the Unicode form to type mentions or to search accounts by handle—I think both of these can only really be fixed by Bluesky themselves at the API level.

Let me know if you spot anything I’ve missed!

Managed to get this into the update that just hit the App Store!

A couple of limitations though. You still need to use the punycode version to add accounts, and Unicode handles are not detected in profile text—will try to fix both of these.

Aeronaut 1.8 is now available with a fix for viewing full-size images—apologies for any inconvenience!

Also in this version:
• The Activity and Mentions tabs now have a button to mark all as read
• List feeds can now remember your place and restore it when you switch back

Unfortunately changes to Bluesky’s image CDN have broken full-size image previews.

The good news is that I’ve already submitted an update with a fix to the App Store and requested an expedited review. Depending on whether that request is accepted, it should be available in a few hours to a day.

Thanks, I’m seeing it too now. It is related to Bluesky’s CDN changes and will require a code fix, unfortunately.

I have the fix ready, just depends how long it takes Apple to review the update. Appreciate you reporting it!

Bluesky are in the process of switching over the image format of their CDN, so I suspect it’s related to that.

Are you seeing this consistently? If you could you point me to a post that it’s happening with? Thanks!

I’m not aware of any alternative CDNs for Bluesky right now. It is possible, but everyone seems to be using Bluesky’s own.

A member of their team has teased an upcoming announcement about image quality, so I’m hoping that issue will be improved soon.

That is on my todo list!

I seem to recall the docs discouraging doing that so as to reduce load on the PDSs. What would be the benefit of doing so?

Thanks Gary!

Check out the What’s New section on the App Store page for an exhaustive list of changes.

Note that the refresh keyboard shortcut has changed from ⌘R (now used for reply) to ⌥⌘R.

• Change the direction of spacebar scrolling in Settings
• Use the period key to go to the top of any feed and refresh
• Use the left arrow key to go back and the right to open the selected item
• Tab switch shortcuts now go to the first page / scroll to the top when the tab is already selected

You can then email the log file to support@aeronautapp.com and I can hopefully work out why it’s not working for you. 2/2

Sorry for the inconvenience! Would you mind emailing some logs to me so that I can investigate what’s going on?

You’d need to try it again, and this time after the error appears hold down option/alt whilst pressing Help in the main menu. That should make an Export Diagnostics menu item appear. 1/2

So this was a bit of an oversight on my part. In the next release cmd+up will clear your existing selection, so when you hit j/k again it will reselect from the currently visible posts.

E.g. cmd+up followed by J will select the top post.

Does that solve the problem?

That’s a really interesting idea! Quite workable too. I’ll add it to my feature request list, though I’ve had a lot of them so I can’t promise that I’ll be able to implement this anytime soon.

Yeah I absolutely get the reasoning! The person that originally requested spacebar scrolling asked not to have Ivory’s behavior, so I guess it’s a matter of personal preference. Hopefully having it configurable satisfies everyone!

Looking at adding a bunch more shortcuts probably this week, so I’ll see what I can do!

Ah I went as far as to buy a silicone keyboard overlay with vim shortcuts on it, but just couldn’t unlearn my reliance on arrow keys!

By “second pressing should exit expanded posts” do you mean that it should take you back to the tab root like it does if you click the tab when it’s already selected? If so, then yes, that’s also on my list!

Copy link to post is on my list along with over a dozen other shortcuts. It may even make it into the next release!

Adding scroll to top behavior to the tab shortcuts is also on my list.

That was actually a feature request. I am a vim user, but I’ve never managed to retrain my muscle memory from using the arrow keys!

As for the soft scrolling suggestion, I’ll add it to my feature request list. Thanks for the feedback!

Most Mac apps that support spacebar scrolling (Safari, NetNewsWire) have it go down, so I’m pretty happy that’s the right default. But someone else raised this yesterday so I’ve already added an option in Settings to change the direction—will be available in the next release!

Known issue: ⌘J currently beeps—will be fixed in the next release.

Since I’m not much of a keyboard navigator, any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Aeronaut 1.6 is now available. This release adds support for selecting list items with the keyboard!

• ▲ or K to move selection up
• ▼ or J to move selection down
• ↵ to perform the default action
• ⌘J to go back to the selected item if you’ve scrolled it out of view
• ⌘+click to deselect

Lots more keyboard shortcuts on the way! In the meantime, you can separately use command+up-arrow to go to the top, and command+R to refresh.
