Random thoughts from random synapses firing in my brain. Sometimes I’m a radio DJ, other times software engineer, photographer or electronic artist. Purchase fine art prints of my photography at https://stephen-belovarich.framer.art/

Bigger features will be built on top of this idea of an "effects chain" later.
Initially the user opens a photo and sees a histogram, call to action to add a filter.
The user can chain several filters together get new looks for photos and video.
When the settings are just right, the user can version the image settings and recall them later. The user can also export images one by one.
The user starts out with zero effects applied, then can choose from a long list of available effects they can chain together to process the image or video. For an electron app, it's processing 40MP images very well.
Images are edited with a series of filters that create an effects chain in an electron app. Each filter maps to a function of ffmpeg. When the user makes changes a live preview displays the output of the effects chain.
The app not only handles image effects chains for both images and video the same way, but also provides an audio effects chain for video and audio files useful for preprocessing or processing any media for creative projects.
Example of how the user can share a photo to Bluesky in the app.
The gallery acts like a contact sheet, viewable in several different grid configurations.
The last photograph I shared was processed entirely in an app I'm developing. The past week I broke everything and put it back together again to make an image editing workflow that makes more sense to me than traditional apps by making the process modular using effects chains!
A photo of the Portlandia statue in Portland, Oregon, symbolizing the city's history and culture. The statue is located in the Portland Building, a public building in the city’s downtown area.
Portlandia really looks great this time of year, doesn't she?

I've got a ton more to code 😅
Today I wired up image and video export. The idea is to provide a low cost standalone app for cataloging and processing images and video.
First photo solely edited and shared from my new app 🎉
The Steel Bridge spanning the Willamette River, with a cityscape in the background. A freight train crosses the bottom deck while the Max crosses the top deck of the bridge at sunset.

Early example of changing image characteristics of a video, observing the changes from a still, then processing the entire video preview.
Early example of some settings for editing a photograph.
Making progress. Now the user can apply LUT, edit aspects of the image for #photography & #video. I figured since I already had sharp and ffmpeg as dependencies, might as well make a GUI to leverage those libraries. Not a NLE, main use to non-destructively preprocess footage for a project.
A murder of crows flying over the Willamette River at sunset, with the Steel Bridge and Portland cityscape in the background.
This one is for the night owls. Taken this evening: a murder of crows blanketing the skies above the Steel Bridge.
Goodnight folks!

A record store's front window displays a neon sign reading 'RECORDS' and a sign below it saying 'BUY SELL' in orange and yellow letters. I know what I would like after working as a photographer, camera op but wondering what others would prioritize.
If you could buy an app with a standalone license to help organize your media assets that doesn’t lock you into an ecosystem what features would you like to have?
AI generated titles, descriptions, tags uses a local LLM installed with ollama autofills metadata upon asset import.
Collections view allows you to manage and view assets in collections. Coming soon: Smart Collections from conditional logic.
Select up to nine assets to compare them in 2up, 4up, 9up layouts.
Export all assets with optimized variants for web. It's the start of a feature that will generate image galleries photographers can self host for clients.
Making progress on this app that allows you to catalog #photography, audio, #video, apply metadata, share, open assets in your editor of choice. Hoping to release later this year for Windows, MacOS, Linux. I was tired of leaning on cloud services because Big Tech is nothing but a disappointment 🤷♂️

A man looks out on Vernonia Lake. Vernonia Lake, located in Vernonia, Oregon, is a 45-acre former mill pond turned popular recreation area. It is known for year-round fishing (trout, bass, crappie), a 0.95-mile paved walking trail, primitive camping, and birdwatching. That's a pretty sight. Hope they sound as good as they look. Audio files about to be supported in app too. This project is becoming an app to manage all your digital assets.
Example of a video player with audio waveform and panel that displays editable metadata for the video file.
Support for video is coming along....
Image gallery paginates through thousands of images.
File import will recognize camera devices and allow import from local filesystems.
Metadata for a single image.
Custom weather reports. You can specify ideal conditions at specfic hours of the day and the app will display upcoming days and time you should schedule outdoor photography shoots.
App development is coming along. You can view image assets and their metadata, rate and share images, find and sync assets across your filesystem, and one thing missing from #photography apps: custom weather reports. Adding support for video assets next.
A loupe UI element that magnifies parts of a photograph for closer inspection.
I'm a fan of the little details, like having a loupe handy to peep some pixels.
Abandoned Blue Heron Paper Mill at the site of the Willamette Falls in Oregon City. Single family homes line the hillside above the abandoned industrial buildings. Evergreen trees dot the skyline. Willamette Falls in Oregon City is the second largest falls by volume in the Unites States. Situated at the site of an abandoned paper mill, plans for Willamette Falls focus on transforming the industrial site into a public amenity, featuring a riverwalk, ecological restoration, and the development of Tumwata Village by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. I'm thinking of providing this app for others who want to manage their photography in a local app too, rather than in the cloud.
Importing photos from camera in the app.
Editing a photograph in Pixelmator Pro.
After importing the edited photo into the app, I edit metadata about the photograph.
Select from multiple photos to post on Bluesky or upload to Framer.
How the sausage gets made these days....
Built an app to rid me of cloud based services. It helps manage my #photography library between computer and NAS. I can import from camera, edit in a photo editor, import final edited photos into the collection, edit metadata, and post.
